What's the difference between the AVGN and the Nostalgia Critic?

James is balding too.

Honestly, I've learned more about the the history of movies from James than I have from anything Doug's ever shat on. James just has the drive and soul for movies and you can tell from the way he discusses them. I remember Monster Madness being the thing that MADE me want to look deeper into the history of horror films.

The only thing Doug's ever made me want to do is drink heavily to blot out the sound of his autistic nitpicking.
*goat laugh pierces the heavens*
LOL DOO DOO MOVIE *Points airsoft pistol* AAAAAAAA THIS MOBIE MAKE NO SENSE!!!

James clearly knows how to analyze movies better than Doug, hell, monster madness has always been the top show on his site, second to avgn. His love for vidya and movies is genuine whereas Doug just thinks of them as the next paycheck. James can actually take a break from his avgn persona and do other things because his fans are mature enough to understand he's busy with other things also has a family and knowing he isn't going to give up AVGN anytime soon. Doug isnt funny nor talented NC was his (somehow) lucky break but because of that anything else he does is terrible and...well watching him is like watching a clown on stage, he may be chuckles and jokes onstage but you know he's got a bottle of bourbon and cigars out back for after the show.

AVGN is a likable guy, Doug is an unfunny douche.
While i still think there is some fuckery with screenwave and cinemassacre, i'm convinced Doug completely fucked himself out of his most successful show, by writing it off to a retarded fuck named Mike Michaud. Now Doug's stuck with him till those views plummet and he decides to off himself.

Gonna say Time.

James is in private a very likable guy who you can have an intelligent conversation with. He has knowledge of his particular field of profession as well as of the material he works with. Doug has limited research capabilities (likely due to his crazy ass weekly output schedule) and invests more time in stupid skits that no one finds funny besides his bootlick audience, than into his research of a movie nowadays. When he reviewed old cartoons or dumb oldschool movies, he gave more profound details at the beginning and the end. Guess he peaked with The Room and then burned out while AVGN always took his time to deliver content and conveyed his opinion without screeching our eardrums kaput.
Tl;dr - Time showed who stayed true to his character and who jumped the shark to support it.

#ChangeTheChannel aside, the Nostalgia Critic just matured badly. During my time at the university I used to watch him every wednesday and loved the pre-goat screaming era. Watched AVGN before him, watching AVGN after him. Time does us all in eventually, and those who invest it wisely can profit more off it.

Having watched the most recent Nostalgia Critic episodes, I gotta say that he actually improved very much from before. There are far less overdrawn and unfunny skits, and he seems much less spastic than before.

James is more down to earth and his content was more innovative as he started the angry review genre. Doug just latched onto it but with movies yet he had humble beginnings.

James is entertaining and doesn't force unfunny garbage during his AVGN series while he is capable of branching out to do other things while Doug is stuck to Nostalgia Critic and lacks any range.

Doug Walker has exhibited some flashes of ego that are pretty grating. He was hit with a copyright claim by Tommy Wiseau after he published the NC episode covering The Room. Doug was flabbergasted by such an action because he ultimately recommended the movie and some of the comments said that they would seek it out. Doug actually said that he helped the movie make money and released a video of himself playing Wiseau's lawyer eating dollars. And keep in mind that not only was The Room already a cult hit, but this was a year after the movie had aired on Adult Swim (national television) and had a commentary track released by Rifftrax (renowned bad movie specialists). It's not like he was introducing the movie to such a sizable new audience that he was bringing it thousands of dollars. He's made this argument for studio films, too. Keep in mind that James hasn't really had to deal with similar copyright complaints, but I somehow doubt that he would defend his work by saying he made LJN money.

I echo the ego comments, when you listen to James out of character it's clear that he's nothing like his character, AVGN's all in good fun. In comparison Doug doesn't seem different when out of character, he seems to have the same thoughts and opinions as the critic. This is a huge problem as Doug gets tonnes of shit wrong, now it can be brushed off if you don't take it seriously and assume it's satire, but given what's know on him it's clear he takes himself at least somewhat seriously. Not only does it matter less with James given the more comedic angle, he's way more accurate on the games he covers, even ones out of his expertise.

This is a problem most "critics" have tbf

I completely agree, Jim Sterling in particular I hate because of how bloody seriously he takes himself, but as a general rule of thumb I tend to dislike anyone, let alone critics that takes themselves very seriously. Also I dislike critics who are specifically "angry critics" who try to be actual critics. I have a hard time putting into words why, but the best way I can put it is it feel like using a parody as base for a serious film to me. I wish I could explain it better, but I think you can understand where I'm coming from.

I found James to be way enjoyable content creator, While I don't really watch James and Mike mondays, I really liked Board James, that show is pure kino and very enjoyable while Doug Walker's non NC content (NC is pretty shit even at the start) is unwatchable.

Wasn't his The Room video actually two years after the Adult Swim airing? (I could be wrong though)

I just remember him taking time to shit on Tommy and friends for taking his video down.

Doug pretty much shows entire movies without permission. His reviews clearly break copywrite. But this idiot pushed all his stupid fans to attack them because he wanted his stupid review up
