What's the difference between the AVGN and the Nostalgia Critic?

I completely agree, Jim Sterling in particular I hate because of how bloody seriously he takes himself, but as a general rule of thumb I tend to dislike anyone, let alone critics that takes themselves very seriously. Also I dislike critics who are specifically "angry critics" who try to be actual critics. I have a hard time putting into words why, but the best way I can put it is it feel like using a parody as base for a serious film to me. I wish I could explain it better, but I think you can understand where I'm coming from.

There's one thing worse than bad movies and that's all the complete dunces on the internet who go after the obvious low-hanging fruit to try and make a name for themselves by being the ANGRY, NUTTY, KOOKY, LOUD YOUTUBE REVIEWER GUY.

Rolfe, at least, has an obvious appreciation of cinema to back up his schtick.

Another difference, at least Rolfe has only made one "movie" instead of a string of sub-amateurish too-long movies that, if you bothered to skim the leaks, were made by people so inept they made mistakes not even the most amateur bunch of college kids trying to make a film would make like not bringing along drinking water.

Doug pretty much shows entire movies without permission.

Eh, not quite, there's always plenty of scenes he leaves out, watching one of his videos is not exactly the same as seeing the actual movie.

Maybe The Room was an exception to that though, I can't remember.

OP: the reason why Farmers give Rolfe a pass for things they shit on Walker for is that AVGN doesn't come off as an autistic loser. His stuff was always an order of magnitude better than NC's, too.

You're right that people give james a pass for stuff that Doug and CA get shit on. One example is Bootsy not getting royalties, nobody cares except the Cinemassacre Truth while people didn't get royalties for the anniversary movies was a reason to #ChangeTheChannel. Another one is James recording gameplay on dvds and people didn't care while Doug doesn't know how to record a commentary and that was used in the not so awesome document.
A major difference between AVGN and Nostalgia Critic is James no longer cares about AVGN and just lets Screenwave handle the majority of the work while he just does voice overs and acting on camera. James has let his channel go to shit with the Talking about Games videos, which are just glorified ads about recent games. There's also You Know What's Bullshit being censored and having sponsorships even though the videos only last about 2-3 minutes. Doug still cares about making videos while James cares more about his band and autobiography than his videos.

Yeah, you read here people saying that Rolfe cares about AVGN, knowing that Rolfe never did and AVGN would end on ep 3 if not for Mike Magay pushing Rolfe for more. Mattei himself is like a worse bootleg Nostalgia Videogame Critic, judging from his own content. Rolfe was smart enough to put Mattei into grunt work behind the scenes. Rolfe is smart enough in general with covering up mistakes, remember Paybitch's Cheetahmen?

The true difference is that the AVGN had it's heyday and faded into relative obscurity with its legacy intact

While the NC and Channel Awesome by extension is a never ending cavalcade of trainwrecks
