Chris will give up once his main cheerleaders--Barb and Anna--either kick the bucket or somehow vanish from his life. I know Barb isn't doing much to help his situation now, but the long-term effects of her incessant coddling are undeniable. And, even though Chris and Barb's relationship is more strained than it used to be, it's still going to be a difficult adjustment without having his mother's unconditional...love (if you can even call it love?) in his life.

You're overestimating the impact that Barb has on Chris' life. He'd mourn for a bit when she died in the same way he did when Bob died. But really, right now, she's the reason why he's so miserable nowadays. Barb is the reason he seems like he might give up. I don't think he will give up, mostly because I'm pretty sure Barb will die before he actually gives up.

Anna, I think, is going to be the most insidious person in terms of making sure Chris never quite 'gives up', for better or for worse.

Anna doesn't do much either way. I mean, she might be contributing to boosting his mood on facebook, but I'm iffy on that. Chris seems to be taking the cwcki forum calling him ugly pretty seriously, and nothing that Anna or the dipshits said helped change his opinion. Maybe it's just for this specific topic, but I think he's pretty worried about the potential that he's ugly. He's been worrying about this for awhile and Anna hasn't done shit to change it.

That's a good question. No.

What he's just done is worry about potentially being ugly and try to get his facebook friends to assuage his worries. But even though he gets some asspats, they're not really helping him feel better. Chris is normally pretty quick to believe bullshit, if they're asspats, but I'm pretty confident he's not believing this bullshit. He's asked this question before (middle post):

This is a good question. Problem is, CWC's brain is completely wired with the tropes and clichees of entertainment - TV, movies, anime, vidya. This means he's entitled to a cute sweetheart and hankypanky while overcoming some minor setbacks with little effort.

Whether his autistic brain will ever figure out that reality does not work that way is up for debate.

I guess the only thing he could give up on at this point is his Sweetheart Search (or rather, his waiting around for a pitying girlfriend of sorts), because that seems to be the only thing that keeps him going right now. After reading everyone's answers, I'm not really sure if he's ever going to give up on that; he seems to think life owes him a woman, and that he's going to get it sooner or later because GOD told him so in a Dream. However, I do think reality is taking a toll on him and slowly starting to sink in. His "Am I Good-Looking?" post sounds like him desperately seeking for confirmation that he is attractive, that he is not the problem, but maybe this is because he's really starting to question this. I don't think his ego is as enormous as it used to be.

He might give up, eventually, with time, perhaps when he's around forty-something, or maybe when Barb passes away. Still, this is Chris we're talking about, so there's really no telling. He might continue to think he's everything a girl could wish for until his final breath.

When the Twin Towers were destroyed I was in an optics lab with a grad student, we were fooling around with a He/Ne laser... It's kinda strange to know that at the same time Chris was out shopping with Snorlax and got himself some Pokaymans cards.

I remember my little brother and I were playing with some toys in our parents' room and when my mom came back from doing some shopping she turned on the TV and saw the whole thing and thought it was some movie. Then she realized it was the news and she called for us to go and watch what was happening. We're not from the US, so it didn't strike us that hard, but they say everyone remembers what they were doing on that day and I guess it's true even for us.

Weird that Chris and Snorlax were doing the same thing my mom was doing, though many, many, many miles away.

That's interesting. Do you think he'll ever achieve his dream of having his Sweetheart From the Ground-Up? I honestly don't. As he is now, I don't see any woman taking an interest in him, not even those as mentally unstable as he is.
