I don't know if it's a regional thing, a degradation of the English language thing, a people using English as a second language thing, or what, but in recent years I have heard a lot of people lately say "Shake their head yes" and "Nod their head no." I feel like I'm taking crazy pills because as far as I can recall, it has always been nod for yes and shake for no. For reference, nodding is bobbing the head up and down and shaking is going side to side.

What do you say, Kiwi Farms?

I'll nod - up and down - to confirm a "yes" or "I agree." I'll shake my head - left and right - to show disgust or aggravation.

Generally to the person receiving a nod from me it means, yes i'm here, i'm sentient, i may or may not actually hear what you are saying but i'm acknowledging your existence in a conscious and active way.

Smart, get the Indians to out themselves.
The head bobble, head wobble, or Indian head shake refers to a common gesture found in South Asian cultures, most notably in India. The motion usually consists of a side-to-side tilting of the head in arcs along the coronal plane. A form of nonverbal communication, it may mean yes, good, maybe, okay, or I understand, depending on the context.
