Which Fields of Science Will Be Most Important for Societal Progression the Coming Years?

Biology, Bioengineering, Genetics, etc.: The fact that there are currently scientists working on implementing full blown replacement body parts and potentially cutting down aging through genetic engineering is going to be huge in the coming years. Once the body parts get locked down that will be a huge boon for people who have lost limbs due to genetic defects or violence, while genetic research could theoretically eliminate a lot of defects from happening in the first place.

Robotics and Artificial Intelligence: This one's obvious. People are constantly scaremongering about automation replacing workers and these are the guys working on it. It's worth noting that a lot of industries are less worried about replacement and more talking about augmenting: I've seen radiologists celebrate when programs come out that are able to more accurately predict scans even when you have guys in the AI field jumping the gun and saying nobody should go into cardiology since the field will be killed off by AI in the future.

Those are my two takes, share yours!

Aerospace Engineering. A lot of the technology that emerged in the 60's - 70's which made its way to the general public (and the military) was as of a result of the Space Race. I firmly believe space is our next step. Whether it's terraforming a planet, harvesting materials from asteroids, or just any exploration, it's something I feel we should keep investing in AND diversify by allowing private companies to contribute. The SpaceX launch being successful is SO much more important than it's getting credit for.

Agriculture, after society burns we'll need to know how to grow enough corn to feed the country again.

Maybe I'm too blackpilled, but I think a lot of the future advances in technology and science will be new and more efficient ways to fuck people over.

See, you need to snort enough blackpills to become Partypilled like me and celebrate whenever our society moves closer to 1984.

I’m probably going to be traditional, but I have to say it will either be Computer Engineering/Computer Science or Mathematics.

Math is helpful for most of the future regarding Aerospace Engineering, Chemistry, A.I. and other things revolving around this subject.

Computer Science and Computer Engineering help make the reality true by making these types of products more accessible to the mainstream, by reworking the computational and analytical approach to making “New Age” science work.

Im already investing on that.

Computer science and mathematics are too wide topic to point out. Plus I think that Computer Science is slowly becoming a factor against societal progression, with the "AI" that is currently possible being used against free speech and innovation. Biological engineering in humans is interesting but I don't think it will really help anyone besides few that need it for medial care. Super strong limbs and the like is an interesting concept but the jobs that could afford it will likely not need it.
I don't think space travel will become a reality without some massive changes in where/how we build rockets to reduce fuel.

I guess I'll go with robotics - 3d printers and swarms will revolutionize building new places at a fraction of the time and cost. It can remove a lot of problem this days of shortage of living space and the insane cost of renovating cities.
