Which game series had the worst anniversary celebration? - Those are supposed to be special events, but some games just insult the players instead.

Umbrella Corps and it's not even close. The fact it hasn't been brought up yet should tell you how terrible and forgettable it truly was.

For those who don't know - For the 20th Anniversary for Resident Evil, Capcom decided to take a look at everything people loved about the franchise and release a game doing the exact opposite of that.

Not surprised Sonic was brought up but AM surprised this wasn't

"Happy 15th! Here's the very 1st game for the GBA that sounds like shit with physics that feel and play like shit as well." 🖕 - Sega

Star wars Republic Commando whenever it got rereleased for the switch and modern consoles. They removed the track "Clones"-by Ash, and was the equivalent of removing the Halo theme from a Halo game. Sure it looks less chromey than the original version, but they tried to force in filoniwars music when this game was made years before he got into Lucasfilm. Also the magnaguards were never as badass in any other star wars media as they were in SWRC.

WoWs 10-year-anniversary (I think) was pretty anemic. If I remember correctly it amounted to a pet and a battleground with Tarren Mill vs. Southshore that utterly missed the point of why those organic PvP battles were so memorable.

It also had a Raid Finder version of Molten Core, that was even more of a chore to run due to the sheer amount of Curse effects, and the Dispel changes, since Dispels have a CD, IIRC. I don't remember if the bosses even dropped appropriate level loot either.

Going back to game anniversaries, Gran Turismo's 25th anniversary in 2022 was pretty lackluster. Gran Turismo 7, IIRC, sold a 25th anniversary edition on launch with a few extra things of note (I think the Toyota Supra is the only thing worth of note), and the November 2022 game update for GT7, on the 25th anniversary of the game, was very lackluster too.

The Anniversary car of choice was the Red Bull X2019, out of all cars to choose from:

At least when Forza Horizon celebrated their 10th anniversary in 2023, their anniversary car was a special version of the 2013 Dodge Viper, which was the cover car of the first FH game:

And they even added a Horizon Origins story to the game, even though the storyline races are pretty forgettable for the most part.

The only memorable thing about Umbrella Corps for me is that I often mix it up with Operation Racoon City, ANOTHER shitty Resident Evil game that nobody asked for. Granted, some friends and I played ORC for like a month and kinda enjoyed it, despite the jank and the fact that it was basically a RE-skinned World War Z with a weird competitive PvPvE multiplayer.

Not an anniversary of a series, but this month will be the 30 year mark since Silicon & Synapse became Blizzard. If only that original team knew how bad things were going to get.

cream of the crop is Kirby’s Dream Collection on Wii to celebrate the series’ 20th anniversary. All six mainline games up through 64, a new set of challenge stages made in Return to Dream Land’s engine (so basically a mini-expansion for the newest game), a nice history section full of info about past games with gameplay footage and music, and three episodes of the anime. Plus an art book, a soundtrack CD, and a metal badge; all for $40.
I got this when it came out and thought it was great, I got the Mario all stars one for like 10$ from someone a few months later and was fucking PISSED it was just Mario All Stars and not even + World. I could have easily looked this information up or something but because the Kirby one was so complete I was under the impression it would basically be everything up to and including yoshi's island or something. I couldn't imagine paying more than I did for it.

Klonoa's 25th anniversary was dissappointing.

They released a garbage remake of the 2 mainline PlayStation games (Door to Phantomile and Lunatea's Veil) that featured:

- Amateurish models with stiff animation. (Seriously look at Klonoa 1's player model)
- Mish-mashed audio from both the original PS1 release and the Wii remaster for the Klonoa 1 remake, meaning voicelines could be either crystal clear or noticeablycompressed.
- Lackluster graphics.
- A soundtrack album DLC that when purchased could ONLY be listened to from THE GAME itself.

Other than that I don't know much since those alone have turned me off from buying the game, What I know is that it brought in a lot of troons to make the poor furfag with a Pac-Man cap into one of their trans headcanon projections.

If you want to play Klonoa just get an emulator.
I assure you the only reason anyone liked these remakes was because, speaking from experience, Klonoa fans were DESPERATE for pretty much the first new content and/or official acknowledgement of the series in years and the nostalgia let them ignore how utterly they butchered LV's artstyle in the remake.

It also helped that they really thought this would lead to anything more than a quick cashgrab before Klonoa went right back to being dead almost immediately.
Being a fan of this series fucking sucks.

They released a pandemic to celebrate Sonic's thirtieth.
Ghosts and Goblin got Lock-downs, Blm riots, and the Pandemic on its 35th. This series is more neglected than Mega Man because it gets nothing on its anniversary dates. All this series gets from Crapcom are hit and miss games (Maximo and the shitty GnG game from 2021), and collab shit Crapcom put little or no effort into (the shitty Monster Hunter collab, shitty Duty Fighter V costumes that were fomos, etc.).

Cross-posting from the TF2 Community thread, per @Enig, Counter-Strike's 25th anniversary was the most minimum of minimum:

This is your reminder that the 25th anniversary of Counter Strike has passed and all anyone got was a tweet. Not even anything ingame to celebrate it, no big documentary with updates like HL got last year or even a new operation like players have wanted for months now, a secular fucking tweet.

Although it's debatable if that said bare minimum of an anniversary, is as bad as something like Sonic '06 or the Battlefield 20th Anniversary Player Cards for BF2042.

The Sims's 25th Anniversary has been a mess, since the re-releases for The Sims 1 and 2 are both buggy messes that constantly crash, content was removed from TS2 for copyright reasons, (no IKEA Stuff Pack, and some music tracks were also removed) and EA's attempts to patch the games are making them even more glitchy and crash-prone.

And the anniversary stream, which is going on right now, is VERY painful to watch:
