Whiskey - It's the water of life!

Old Crow used to be high end.
After a breakup and I spent a good few months going deep in handle of handle of old Crow I don't even like being in the room of it.

Andrew Jackson's fav whiskey, oddly I never burnt any injuawns, just my own internal organs on that stuff.

Jubal Early, Mark Twain, and allegedly Lincoln as well, were very fond of it. A storied whiskey, for all the shit it gets. I must confess I'd adore it either way.

My mother had a passion for Crown Royal, which I never inherited for the most part, but my significant other is fond of the Honey Crown Royal and that stuff is so good you can just drink it out of the bottle like Coca Cola.

Crown Royal is kinda weird. It's smooth but too sweet. I only ever got a taste for whatever dad drank, Wild Turkey and Jim Beam. The alcohol vapor going down is part of the experience! It's kinda like strawberry cough.

The best affordable bourbon is Ezra Brooks. Fantastic but hard to find. Evan Williams is more common and pretty decent as well. Not as good as ezra brooks though. They're usually around 11-15 each. They taste pretty great straight if you so choose and you're not a total pussy.

Forgive me if this is thread necromancy, but I still want to discuss whiskey.

Is it sad that I enjoy Clan MacGregor unironically?

I mean, it's a cheap blended Scotch that's aged the bare minimum three years and costs $12 for a whole liter, and a lot of people don't like it. But I think it's alright. It's good neat or mixed with ginger ale, and because it's so cheap, I don't feel like a dickhead for mixing it with soda like I would with any other brand of Scotch or even bourbon.

In fact, I'm currently sipping on a glass of it right now.

Also, to our whiskey-drinking Kiwis, which do you generally prefer, Scotch or Bourbon?

Knob Creek is my go-to. Bought a bottle of Tullamore Dew Irish whiskey as a gift for a friend of the family. His birthday is tomorrow, he gets the bottle and a straw.

Scotch is subtle. I had some 18 year Glenlivet and it was oh so smooth, and gentle flavored. Bourbon on the other hand is a stronger tasting whiskey, for good or ill. I like the sweetness of the aftertaste of Knob Creek. However, I tried a borbon from a place called Watershed Distillery, and it was like licking the back of an old stamp. Fucking godawful.

I like that there's places offering whiskey/bourbon/scotch flights at restaurants now. Trying a small bit of three or so different whiskeys is fun.

I'm a weenie who doesn't drink with the exception of the occasional lambic, but I just made a loaf cake with Jack Daniels and that was pretty tasty. The Jack and molasses worked very well together.

Spent a lot on it over the years. It's the only thing I drink. Anything from Islay, neat and a triple pour. A single small iceblock when it's hot.

And here I thought you drink wine.

I'm in the mood for good ol' fashioned American whiskey, most likely a bourbon.

I think I'll get myself a nice fifth of Wild Turkey 101. Any other fans of Wild Turkey here?

Some whiskeys are for putting on the rocks and sipping or mixing.

Wild Turkey 101 is for when you want to shake your head and say goddammit.

I apologize for the thread necromancy, but I just bought a new fifth of Jameson Irish Whiskey this afternoon and it is awesome. I literally just opened the bottle a few minutes ago and I'm sipping on a glass of it right now as I type this, even though I should be sleeping.

Been having trouble sleeping lately, actually and I don't know why. Hopefully this will help.

About four or five shots ought to do the trick and help me get all nice and sleepy (and fairly drunk). It's been about two months since my last drink of anything strong, so my tolerance should be fairly low and I should start feeling the buzz pretty soon.

Jameson has always been my favorite brand of whiskey ever since I started drinking. Whiskey generally makes me super-mellow and relaxed when buzzed or drunk off of it, while too much vodka or white rum will make me loud, obnoxious, and mean for some strange reason.
