WHO declares highest alert over monkeypox

The monkeypox outbreak has been declared a global health emergency by the World Health Organization.

The classification is the highest alert that the WHO can issue and follows a worldwide upsurge in cases.

It came at the end of the second meeting of the WHO's emergency committee on the virus.

More than 16,000 cases have now been reported from 75 countries, said WHO director general Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

There had been five deaths so far as a result of the outbreak, he added.

There are only two other such health emergencies at present - the coronavirus pandemic and the continuing effort to eradicate polio.

Dr Tedros said the emergency committee had been unable to reach a consensus on whether the monkeypox outbreak should be classified as a global health emergency.

However, he said the outbreak had spread around the world rapidly and he had decided that it was indeed of international concern.

"The WHO's assessment is that the risk of monkeypox is moderate globally and in all regions, except in the European region, where we assess the risk as high," he added.

>16,000 cases out of earth's whole population
>5 deaths worldwide
WE'RE ALL DOOMED!!
16000 cases outside of Africa. Numbers much higher if you include that continent, and a bit higher still if you count the other strains there.

The deaths aren't the tragedy, it's the fact that people are having to question whether butt fucking 50 strangers every weekend is a bad idea. That is an international emergency that must be dealt with immediately.
If butt fucking 50 strangers every weekend is a bad idea, then why does it feel so butt fuckin good?

I posted about this in the COVID thread but:

I worked at a place that as part of a quid-pro-quo arrangement with the chinese health ministry had a constant rotation of about 2 dozen or so Chinese Post-Docs going through. These were people who had completed PhDs in sciencific research fields, some had multiple masters from US/EU universities (not just chicom memorization farms). They had also been through a half-year course specifically to stop them from engaging in the worst stereotypical chink behaviors and embarrassing themselves, their ancestors, and the communist party
Here were some of the things I saw.

- There had to be one non-Chinese person in the lab anytime the PDs were in there. This is because if left unsupervised, the Chinese post-docs would not use PPE, and would eat/drink in the lab where there was not only highly sensitive machines but also human tissue and blood samples being processed.
- They formed into little cliques, and the cliques would do daily pot-luck, everyone bringing a dish and their own rice and sharing from the same dishes. This means when one person in a clique got sick, they all got sick.
- The Chinese made up all kinds of excuses to be moved from one side of the building. Interrogations trying to figure out if someont was being racist uncovered this was due to the fact that side of the building faced a small cemetery. The PhDs were afraid of the cemetery ghosts haunting them/possessing them.
- weekly reminder emails to the entire department to not stand on toilet seats.
- wholesale theft of anything not nailed down or rigorously tracked. And not of the "I'll snag a couple of pens", boxes of lab and office supplies.
- CONSTANT rank pulling (or attempting to do so).

China knows their Biotech industry sucks. Sucks hard. Wuhan Lab is them trying to catch up to the West - it is not a biowarfare lab, it is China trying to not be reliant on the West for medicinal science that goes beyond brewing a cup of dried tiger penis tea. They just suck at it because modern medical research is so completely antithetical to the Chinese mindset, ESPECIALLY the one the communist party has attempted to shape over nearly the past century, and Chinese ideas of health are influenced by literal fear of ghosts.

This is what it was like with the people deemed worth while to send to the other side of the planet to try learn from the round-eyes. So I can only imagine how much of a shit-show the Wuhan protocols are. It shouldn't be surprise to anyone.

Also, just in case anyone wonders why the WHO sucks china's dick so hard:
China has 2 billion people and zero privacy laws. In the US, you have a good day if you can get a case study that has 1,000 people. In China, just about anything you're looking to study or track has millions if not tens of millions.
China also has a few million people in reeducation centers with less than no rights.
