Who is your favorite Fighting Game character?

They hated him because he was too based.
Omega versions were the best thing Capcom ever did in Street Fighter 4. It felt like the devs were actually having fun by giving even the "low tier" characters some new tools to work with. Classic characters having their attacks from the Alpha games, Guile getting Remy's Cold Blue Kick, etc...

I love it when a fighting game offers a fuck-ton of customization whether it's what team you want to use, or how the fighter plays via the variety of mechanics offered to you.

That would be Jigglypuff. Wether or not Smash is a true fighting game is debatable, but this little shit has been my main since Melee. I started using her as a joke when me and my friends would play Melee, and this was well before any solid tiering existed, so to us it was just "lol you got fucking stomped by Jigglypuff, fag".

They have nerfed the hell out of her in newer iterations, but I still stick with her because she's still plays almost exactly the same all these years later, I can pick up any Smash but 64 and I'm ready to go. I'm also a largely defensive player when it comes to fighting games, so Jiggs play style definitely fits my niche.

As for an "actual" fighting game character, Siegfried from pretty much any Soul Calibur. I don't care about the character himself, it's all about play style. For Soul Calibur, Sieg tends to be fairly balanced, having a fair bit of speed and damage, but most importantly reach. He doesn't "excel" in any factor, but he's not "middling" in any either, nicely "just above average".

Since I'm a defensive player, being able to play keep away and still chunk HP is extremely important in a battle of attrition and Sieg does this job pretty well while remaining a fairly simple character in overall moveset. There are many better options for speed, power, or reach in SC, but they all tend to sacrifice something else or become far far more complex than the other characters in exchange (or you're just fucking Kilik). I ain't a tournament level player so my only concern is overall efficiency and if I like the play style. It's also just funny when a dude with a comically oversized sword and heavy ass armor beats your ass because he outmaneuvered you, somehow.

So I may as well describe a couple other mains of mine outside the obvious, though now I wish I described why in his post to avoid doubleposting.

PL'ing a bit for this one: Street Fighter's inspired me since SF2's debut in 1991 to get fit and in shape, and it's paid off nicely. Even the fact the cast continues to age come SF6's obvious older SF2 cast makes me feel good than bad - if they can continue pushing themselves into their 40s, 50s, and beyond, I can too. That said, Oro is probably the most extreme if logical end of that thought. Dude's 140 years old but trained so hard he doesn't even need to actively train anymore, yet is still immensely powerful enough he has to tie one hand behind his back, literally, to give rivals even a bare chance to win. But he also keeps a really fun personality and is ever-learning even in his old age - that plays out nicely in his fighting style where you don't quite play it safe but patiently, but you learn him thoroughly and thus both counter your opponent's attacks or confuse them with what you do next alike. And then when shit happens, you throw down and get serious per his enhanced Super Arts. Dude's got good taste in women as well if calling Rose cute in his SFV story means anything. Really sad he seems to have passed away in SF6 if Ryu wearing his shirt seemingly in his honor means anything...

Johnny Cage from Mortal Kombat is a damn good redemption arc of a character in terms of growth. Going from the old timeline's ever-dying joke to the hero of the new timeline when Liu got put out of commission for twenty-seven years in-universe, becoming a good father and uncle to Cassie and the Kombat Kids and valuable ally to all the good guys, all while maintaining humor in the writing? Damn, I never expected it. And he's always been very smooth to play and combo with, perfect for a Hollywood star archetype. Nothing like your opponent in MK9 knowing the match is lost the moment they try to attack you you'll just counter with the X-Ray move.

If we're going down that route, then my favorite from that would be Zelda (who's also my main). Smash4 did good by making her and Shiek seperate characters instead of sharing one body, and I like her down special in that game.

Esoteric choice:

Played it first at Sega World in London and only found out Akira is an actual girl in the PS1 release with her alt costume. Rival Schools had a great cast of characters in general and was tons of fun. Infuriating that they cut the RPG mode for the US and Pal PS1 release!
Rival Schools is the cultured man's choice. Christ, what a great goddamn game. I could probably list half the cast here, but Shoma and Natsu were probably my favorites by a narrow margin.

Also liked Xiaoyu when I played Tekken 3 back in the day. Being able to switch between different stances with different move sets made her interesting to play, and her ending was funny.

It sucks that the 1st game was butchered in the US. Japan's 2nd disc was a vn/dateSimulator regarding your create-a-character that you could then use in the game itself. The US just got a mishmash of pre-made characters right off the bat and no dating sim. Capcom's excuse was that it would take up too much of their time to translate all of that, which says alot considering the 1st disc's story modes had piss-poor translations to begin with.

Naoto Kurogane, helps that he is voiced by one of my favorite voice actors Nobunaga Shimizaki and his brief dub voice actor in BBTag was the late great Billy Kametz, RIP.

Oh man! I almost forgot about Karnov from Karnov's Revenge.

He is totally Abdullah the Butcher:

Amaterasu from mvc3. Weird hitboxes, fast as hell, and with a totally broken xfactor. I have ruined so many people's day with that dog.

i've only seen mentions of KOF angel but no pictures, the hell kiwis?

How about this one:

Akira is super cute and cool and her brother Daigo is a pretty cool ass character too. Rival Schools is amazing+one of my fav 3D fighters ever. I liked that Sakura was in it, too, so there was always a Street Fighter connection. I usually played as Tiffany because boxer, but her sexy american flag outfit didn't hurt, either.

I thought about it and even though I prefer M. Bison/Balrog/Boxer, I am 100% certain that Balrog/Vega/Claw is probably the character I am best with in Super Turbo. He really pisses people in fightcade off.

Ragna from BlazBlue. I like the flow of his combos.

I really liked Sol from GG but could never get any milage with him. Always ate shit.

Also Lee chaolan and Kazuya Mishima for Tekken.

Overall, Ken. He's cool, plays well, usually viable. He's got it all.

From a gameplay perspective it's Mitsurugi. I love the way he feels to control, especially in Soulcalibur 3 & 4. No idea how good he is as a character, but he's pretty cool too actually.

From a pure design perspective, I like Chun Li, and not for coomer reasons. I've just always thought she looks neat.

I think Hisako from Killer Instinct is neat.

Charlie/Nash from SF Alpha. I learned how to play charge characters as this guy.

Ralf, Clark, and Leona in KoF. Always gotta rep Ikari, and they're a blast to play as.
