At the time I was very worried about finding a girlfriend. I felt like I was way behind because I didn't date in high school, and I felt this huge pressure on me, like I had to catch up, I had to find a wife for when I graduated and since it's a kind of random process I had to date feverishly. This was all foolish, of course, but I think many of you understand how a young person will place burdens on themselves, will worry themselves to death over things that have to sort themself out in their own time. There's an irony, isn't there, that younger people often feel like they have less time because they have so little of it behind them that they can't see how much they have before them. It wasn't just about love/companionship either. My father was an old man even when I was born and I was/am very attached to my parents. They'd take me to graveyards and funerals a lot when I was a little kid.

No one is perfect, its about finding the person you click with the best. Your hobbies, interests, etc etc should fall by the wayside when initially dating, if they are niche and arent something thats extremely popular. Sometimes you'll find a woman who is just interested in what you have to say, and is enthralled by the passion you have for a topic, just don't go overboard with it. Its all about striking a balance, and most importantly being someone people want to be around. Be funny, be interesting, be charming but don't fake it because everyone can see through that. Grow your confidence. Once you're in a relationship though, communication and emotional honesty is the name of the game, but that has to be built. Relationships take a lot of time, once you find someone that "clicks" with you invest in them, if you find out they aren't for you then slowly cut the cord and move on. Maybe I take a lot of what I had when I was a teenager/young adult for granted with regards to the current dating culture, but I still have the sense that there are people out there for you if you want to find them.
