Why do furries exist?

There's surely something to be said along the lines of "Dissociative ennui arising from a lack of purpose and self-satisfaction in an increasingly changing world empowered by the internet." But Imma go with the old r34 constant going a little too far.

Ears, big animal snouts, and tails are easier to read than subtle human facial expressions.
I would argue it's also easier to make positive associations with animalistic features, assuming positive interactions were had with pets and such. Honestly, worst an animal will usually do is bite you. People rip hearts out for shiggles. Greater intelligence gives greater potential for cruelty. Anthros might be seen as a way to get a synthesis of "intelligent, but not necessarily cruel". Dunno. Has anyone ever actually done a study on this?

The Navajo tribe had what was known as a skinwalker, a witch doctor that wears animal furs to take the form of those animals, which predates the furry community by at least a couple centuries. Nowadays they're essentially just the replacement stock zombies found in creepypastas.

Holy shit that picture is fucking awesome. I always imagined a stock photo of an Injun with a dead animal on his head, not a shambling patchwork mess of shredded dead animals.

Well if someone did not already mention it, this guy called Gnoggin did a good video on why Furries exist a while back, basically kids who get crushes on those anthropomorphic characters because of their personality. Autism and fetishism also has a pretty big role that ties into all of this.

God made a mistake and forgot to cap the max value of the "weird sexual desires" slider. Life is a cartridge game so we don't get an update and we just have to live with it. Same with AIDS, an exploit that many people use to speedrun life.

Are you saying that furriness is basically Sick Fuck Integer Overflow? Like Nuclear Gandhi? Or are we talking more Missingno-tier shenanigans?

When a human is created, they get a random value assigned to how strange their sexual desires are going to be. The random value is chosen in a range, and so it's capped. However as they are raised a random walk algorithm is run that moves this value up and down. This random walk has a floor, it can't go beneath 0, but it doesn't have a cap and can move infinitely high. This value is stored in a dynamic array of integers and as a result is arbitrarily large and doesn't overflow. When God realized his mistake and saw the brutality of man, he stepped in and tried a server-side patch with the world's religions. Wouldn't fix the cart with a hard cap, but maybe it could be an effective cap of sorts. However these days many people are getting nostalgic for the days of the 1.0.0.0.0 Beta Civilization (aka 10000 BC) and joining fan-made servers without that patch. God is planning a great and powerful lawsuit that will shut down the fan made servers and bring everyone still on company hardware to an awesome endgame.

Also Nuclear Gandhi was an Integer Underflow, not Overflow.

Animal love goes back thousands of years. It's part of the Greek mythology for example. Idk if people thought it is natural or good or moral back then, but it sure wasn't completely unheard of.
That being said, I think bestiality and "furries" are different. When you fuck a goat, that's bestiality. You are attracted to the animal and the beast-like characteristics that it has. But when you masturbate to an anime goat with big human-like tits, and a round human-like butt, that's different from bestiality IMO.
Maybe they are not completely different, but certainly not the same .
Now let me preface this by saying that I like the idea of fucking antropomorphic goats..

The late 80s and early 90s -- a time when the oldest Millennials weren't yet in high school -- was a time when furry characters were prominent in American media. Sonic the Hedgehog was the "way past cool" answer to Mario by SEGA. There was also that furry Robin Hood cartoon by Di$ney someone already mentioned. And I wonder how many impressionable youth were seduced down the dark path by that Ninjara character in the Ninja Turtles comics...

Maybe that's why it seems furries are always Millennials?

Come to think of it, there’s a cycle to it is there?
