Why do the elites hate cigarettes?

Every other drug has been more and more normalized except for one. For some reason the elites hate smokes and I have no idea why. Of all the poisons that are legalized why are cigs seen as the one that needs a shit ton of restrictions and warning labels?

I think it's the easiest thing they can virtuefag about without hurting their profits. You don't see these same entities going after the hormonally-toxic ingredients in our foods (especially "kids'" foods).

Smoking here is pretty normalized, and the only warnings I see about them (which nobody cares about) is when other people take out their cigarettes' pack and you see "Smoking kills", and maybe a disgusting picture on it.

Tobacco companies have spent millions of dollars researching compounds that prevent cancer and many of the promising ones are included in the recognized list of cigarette additives (see table 1).
If anyone has a vested interest in curing/preventing cancer, it's tobacco companies.

In the US, it's low-hanging fruit because smoking is not as ubiquitous as it used to be. It's an easy button to push every once in a while. Alcohol is extremely damaging, but good luck taking that bread and circus away from people.

I think you're only seeing things from a US point of view because in the US, they have much worse things like vapes, Zyn, and other stuff that I don't remember the names of. But if you leave the US, say you go to Italy, Qatar, or any other country, you will see that there is actually some kind of problem cigarette there.
