Even though less felonies committed by addicts is always good, you’re not getting them off the drugs but just pacifying them by feeding their habits, just like with Methadone. (Which the US already does dispense.)

Heroin maintenance also has some disadvantages that methadone doesn’t have. For one thing it’s so time consuming that it’s virtually impossible to have a job at the same time.

Sure, the war on drugs is an ineffective, massive money pit... But just handing out free dope is hardly the solution.

And my point stands: There’s little difference from methadone programs that already exist in the US (and elsewhere), it just comes with some extra complications (The time spent, a part time job isn’t possible, health risks of injecting, since shooting even pharmaceutical smack isn’t good for your veins.)

It’s also giving up on addicts in a fundamental way.

As for the specific points in the article:

B: “Not a free drug program” my ass. Ok, technically it might not be free (like when addicts pay 5$ for their weekly methadone dose in US clinics) but the amount they pay is still negligible, and in no way covers the cost of having a clinic open 12 hours a day, having nurses present at all times, etc.

C: This is a total straw man of an argument. It also doesn’t mean that diversion doesn’t happen, which it always does in these kinds of programs.

D: It doesn’t do anything that methadone programs don’t already do, and it also has the same problems that methadone programs have: Diversion, addicts getting high on other drugs, addicts supplementing their regular dosages with heroin on the side, etc.

After the George Zimmerman shooting of Trayvon martin I learned everyone in Florida has guns legally and I learned about the stand your ground law that allows you to shoot someone and get away with murder sometimes because it makes your chances of winning a self defense case a lot easier if you use the stand your ground law. So I was thinking, hell, If you want to get away with murder, go to Florida and shoot someone. But then I started learning about Chicago Illinois. You are not allowed to have a gun in Chicago, but everyone has one. And instead of needing to use the stand your ground law in Chicago, you just shoot and kill someone and flee. There are so many murders happening in Chicago, and so many going unsolved, you have a better chance of murdering someone in Chicago and getting away with it there than you do in Florida. Just be careful that some random black person don’t shoot you to death for no reason while you are on Chicago. It goes both way. You can shoot people in Chicago but someone else might shoot you first.

I live in a constitutional carry state. That means I can carry a pistol on me and don’t need a license to carry it. But someone online said as soon i pull out the pistol someone else would probably shoot me in the back of the head immediately. I don’t have a gun tho.

I don't hate the country per se, but the sense of impunity and the abysmal, generalized ignorance. It's like a good chunk of Americans have no idea that, outside the USA, there's a whole world that works, studies and has fun. When a friend of my sister's went to the USA during high-school, and spent a year there to study, American students asked her the most autistic questions. EG:
- Do you have running water and plumbing in Italy?
- Do you have traffic lights?
- Do you know that this is boat?
- In Italy you speak Spanish, don't you?
And this happened more or less 10 years ago, facebook, youtube and twitter already existed and internet was widely used, so I can't explain this fucking cluelessness.
