General Why do you like Vtubers & VTubing? - In general.

I was there from the beginning when Kizuna Ai started dropping videos out of nowhere. The tech behind that back then blew me away - I thought she had to be some kind of guerilla marketing campaign for some kind of major corporation like Yamaha, because the idea that somebody could do that with commercially available tech just didn't seem possible back then (and just because her backdrop was very reminiscent of the old iMac commercials from the early 2000's).

Now it's just background noise. I'm not that close to anybody in real life anymore. I had female friends who showed off their quirky and charming sides when they figured out you weren't trying to date them; at their best, that's what these women or any other streamer has to offer. It's just a semblance of sociality that I don't really have access to anymore as a working adult who aged out of the few natural opportunities for commingling that were available to me. It's the soft buzz of conversation a few tables away at the neighborhood cafe that shut down years ago. It turns the volume down just enough on whatever it is I'm working on that I can focus and get my job done. The two distinctions these autistic women have over, say, MATI or Kino Casino or Metokur is that they're always online and they're never saying anything so interesting that I have to pay much attention to what's going on. It's like listening to AM radio but without the constant ads.

Comedy podcasts are fucking showbiz douchebags talking about the business in a super-cunty way, because they consider themselves the victors of it. The best vtubers are actual comedy podcasters, making jokes and having a good time.

That's it.

(The exception is Haachama who's a truly great outsider artist. Her opposite who's a normal podcast cunt is Suisei.)

It took me a while to remember why I'm still watching chuubas, but they, - at least the big corpo ones, initially, - have reignited my hope in that girl gamers aren't an extinct breed that got 98% substituted by troons. Not because I'd go full parasocial for the former, but because then I'd be so repulsed by the latter I'd've left the internet for good.

I like them if they're funny and have a nice voice which usually makes them relaxing to have in the background as well as engaging enough to actively watch. Vtubers are also inherently more cutesy than regular streamers, sort of in a dorky endearing way you don't get anywhere else. All of these qualities combined makes it hilarious to watch them play horror games.

I liked it at first back in 2020 because it was still a fresh and novel concept, but you'd be hard pressed to ever find me actually sitting through an actual stream. I find the absolute majority of streams to be either about games I couldn't care less about, or the commentary-- if we take away the whole "woman-on-the-Internet" appeal-- is very unenticing and bland. I do enjoy some highlight clips from time to time, though. :)
