Because it's organic entertainment that isn't reliant on pushing slop content made by people who hate me.
The types of girls who do the flesh streaming thing are almost always not entertaining and they rely entirely on their physical features, or they rely on surrounding themselves with a clique of likeminded people who hype them up.
Vtubers tend to be socially awkward women who are using an anime girl avatar because they're too menhera to fleshpost, and while some of them are bonafide idols in their areas and do live concerts etc, many many more of them are just socially awkward weebs who feel safer behind an avatar. But these people also tend to be more naturally entertaining in this form because the flesh streamers are accustomed to hearing how wonderful they are and don't try to entertain, while the socially awkward weeb women end up feeling comfortable behind the anime girl face and open up more of their entertaining personalities.

There are a lot of coombaiting simp gatherers in it too, that complaint people have has merit, but for myself I watch them basically because modern entertainment is absolutely shit and it's just more comfy and fun to watch retard women fail at basic tasks of living as an adult than it is to be lectured by Hollywood Star #717263 why I'm bad for being a white Christian American male.

I hated politics infecting everything I watched. All the people who used to be funny decided they needed to clean up and disavow all the things that made them funny along with their fans, and also they suddenly 'needed to use their platform'. Which meant now when I go into a stream or podcast I could be listening and laughing and then suddenly "hey did you see trump did whatever the fuck thing" then it's just politsperging for 30 minutes. It wears on you when it goes on for years, and you get to the point where even hearing any political issue brought up will immediately have you cringe.

Vtubers just happened to show up when I was at my breaking point for all that stuff. Oh shit I can listen to a relaxing or funny stream and know at a 100% certainty I will not have to hear about her opinion on the current sociopolitical thing? Sign me the fuck up bro. I can't tell you how proud I was during the week of Jan 6th 2021 I didn't hear a single unwanted opinion from any Hololive EN member about that situation one way or the other. No handwringing about how democracy was under attack or how democracy was subverted by the leftards. There's never been any BLM or MAGA or anything. It's just a nice and sequestered garden of content where that shit is not allowed.

There are some like Kirsche who have built themselves on being political vtubers, but they clearly are not for me and I avoid them. I mean I don't care if you agree or disagree with me politically, I'm likely not listening to you for your sociopolitical stances and I do not need to hear them.

What weirds me out about the vtuber unmaskings I've seen is that about 75% are surprisingly pretty and the rest are average to slightly unfortunate.

I don't even care about VTubers and I came here to ask what's interesting about them, then several others told me why I SHOULDN'T watch them immediately. I can't man, I just fucking can't.

The main reasons I enjoy watching vtubers is because it's amazing background noise. Sure I can probably find equally mundane stuff to have on the second monitor by searching youtube. Occasionally I do. But if the streamer has a pleasant enough voice and talks about interesting topics, I can listen to that for hours while I work or do household chores or play video games, etc. It really is great, passive entertainment.

For the ones that I do find myself tuning into frequently, the entertainment they provide is enjoyable. When they bring up life's hardships, it's relatable. I like them and hope they find success in whatever it is they are getting out of streaming.

Not into vtubers as a "thing" but people I've watched stream vidya when bored happen to have vtuber avatars and therefore are vtubers as a result. If I come across anyone and they're playing something and their stuff is interesting enough input wise it's gonna be on my list of "yeah this is a fun person to put on sometimes". Always interesting when I find out someone I chatted with a few times or watched stream some shit when they had like 2 or 3 viewers abrubtly is now at like 1000 or more each stream. I find the vtuber mocap avatar stuff really cool and it's basically the same kinda thing I had an idea of doing but not the right setup for over a decade back now. Maybe I will someday but my computer still can't run shit needed for that due to compatibility issues. No clue what i'd even make my avatar but I'd very likely make it myself since I like making shit.

It's also literally just this shit but with actual live gameplay, shits been around forever but you don't gotta use sensor rig shit anymore.
