Whenever I look at a piece of what is currently referred to as "modern art", it amazes me how such trash is allowed to even leave the room it was made in without the artist falling into complete embarrassment. Even the kind of dross you would find on free internet art communities like DeviantArt or Pixiv is unironically superior to the kind of rank garbage you see being bought for hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Why, when, and how did it become passé for the modern artist to actually draw or paint something that is aesthetically appealing, that follows certain rules of form and function?
