The Autism Wiki. From what I've read of it so far, there's not much there that's very interesting, but I just found it funny that there exists an "Autism Wiki." Well, I suppose ALL of these are autism wikis, but this one is at least honest about it.

Does Chris have an article on there? Because if Chris doesn't have an article on an autism wiki, it's a fucking travesty.

Just checked. He's not there.

He has an article now.

It's an A-Log shitfest.

And they talk about that same "cure for autism" bullshit that so many autists bitch about. Wanting to find a cure for autism is, in their eyes, the same as advocating for a second holocaust. I've got close family members that work with special needs people, and so I've had the opportunity to meet a lot of autistic people in my life. And I can tell you for a fact that some just want to be normal, and the fact that they aren't makes them miserable and depressed. It's pretty sad, really, and I felt so bad for them.

So it really disgusts me when these, and I know this is an oversaturated term these days, special snowflakes shit on these organizations that are working for a cure. And yes, I can call them special snowflakes, because a lot of them legitimately do operate under the reasoning that curing autism is bad because it takes away something that makes them special.

Denying so many kids a theoretical chance at a better life so you can feel special and have youe own "identity" isn't just selfish, it's pure fucking evil.

According to them, "without Autism the individual's personality is destroyed, and without Autism they would not be the same as before."

First of all, no shit they wouldn't be the same as before. Hence the whole, I dunno, CURING IT IN THE FIRST PLACE! I see what they're going for, but the idea of curing anything is to make someone not be the same as they were. Why don't we try that with other things? "Yeah, I don't want this cure for cancer because I'd not be the same."

As for the argument about their personality being destroyed, that'd only be true for people who either have autism so severe that they can't manage to be anything more than a burden to society (I'm talking those really low-functioning autists; the ones that make Chris look normal), or people who allow themselves to be defined by their autism.

I have autism, and I'm one of the fortunate people who manage to overcome it's downsides and become a mature, functioning human being.

And I'd still trade my life for the cure to autism so no one else has to struggle like I did.

I believe it was a blessing in some ways, it has allowed me to hyperfocus my intellect on some topics, but it's also forced me to have to undergo therapy and medication to overcome how it's affected my mood and emotional state, and if losing that hyperfocus meant all that effort I went through would never have be done again for another person, I'd be honored to sacrifice it so no one else has to go through the same struggle.

Anyone who is so selfish they would rather be crippled so they can claim they are special as opposed to uplifting countless current and future people with autism so they can lead normal lives is a sociopathic bastard who is a disgrace to humanity as far as I'm concerned.
