my windows updater isn't really working so i just gave in and am torrenting a iso of it i figure i can try it in vb before i install it on my real pc

My desktop came with Windows 8.1 so I figure what the hell, it probably won't be worse than that. The updater says they're rolling Windows 10 out in waves, so it might be a while before it starts downloading.

Not yet, how is it?
Is that what you call it? "Up"grade?
It's basically the same OS as 8.1 except with a start menu out of the box. I like the interface thus far except for a few things.

A lot of the default settings are pretty bad. Like the start menu is covered with junk apps and stuff like news/store posts that I had to remove. By default the control panel is not on the start menu, instead there's a generic "settings" option that lets you configure very superficial aspects of the operating system like your color scheme or how large your text is

Thankfully you can remove these things, and pin whatever programs you want to the start menu. Once I did that I didn't really notice Windows 10 as that big of an upgrade. I noticed a handful of stability improvements with my programs, and they apparently updated the legacy Direct3D drivers again. Since my 8.1 fix for a game called Rune turned out to be unnecessary in Windows 10.

I'd assume if you never upgraded to Windows 8.1 and stuck with 7 since it came out you'd consider it a bigger upgrade. But since I haven't used 7 for a while I can't really compare what it feels like. The main reason I upgraded to 10 was to eventually take advantage of DirectX 12.

Apparently OEM versions get upgraded later. My home PC's Windows 8.1 was something I installed myself from an iso. I'd assume OEM will upgrade later today.
>2015
>infecting your system with Windows
/tech/ pls go

Would ou say it's worthwhile upgrading to 10 from 7 or nah?

There is one thing to note about Windows 10.

If you're running the Home version of the operating system. You will not be able to opt out of installing updates. If you use the Pro version you can choose to postpone updates but will not be able to opt out of them. Only the Enterprise version of Windows 10 is able to decide not to update.

Here's where I make a post with angle brackets that points out what year it is and then on the next line there are people running Microsoft products and calling it an operating system, and then I get rated autistic over and over.

Does anyone here run ArchLinux? Apparently it's literally the best OS of all time if you can figure out how to use a command line.

Run whatever you want nigga, your hardware your life. I used to like Linux but my tastes change and I bet I'll go back someday. Sheeeeiiiiiit.

I am upgrading just because my computer (windows 7) is fairly unstable and I hope that windows 10 will improve it,
I wish I could rate my own post optimistic
