I saw a great thread ranking gaming influencers based on whether they are grifters. I want to start a list based on whether you should watch them as a gamer (someone who truly cares about video games and wants to be more informed about them). Since most gaming influencers are shills, it's quite hard to find an honest one to suit your taste.
Do Not Watch: Influencers in this category constantly shill for video games. They don't do their research. They promote woke propaganda in gaming. They grift based on current public opinion. Essentially, they are game journalist or grifter tier.
Flawed: Influencers in this category have strong principles. They know what they're talking about in their reviews. They’ve played the game and aren’t afraid to share their personal opinions, even if it leads to significant backlash. However, they are flawed, perhaps due to poor editing, annoying ramblings, accents that are hard to understand, or character traits that affect the quality of their videos, such as coomerism, political sperging, or doomerism. However, if the flaws are too significant to ignore, as with Jim Sterling, they should be placed in the "Do Not Watch" category.
Good: Influencers who focus solely on the game itself produce high-quality content with well-reasoned arguments backing their opinions. Not every video essay is good, but I consider them good only if they are on the same tier as Matthewmatosis. Warning: Some of them can be boring as a result; without noticeable flaws, they may lack flavor.
This is a work-in-progress list. Obviously, I don't know every single noteworthy influencer, so please provide the influencer name, a short description, why you should or shouldn't watch them, or why they are flawed, and include an example to support your claim. I will update the list over time.
