With modern technology, does a college degree even mean what it used to?

Necro because I want to keep discussing the hidden skills and I think this thread just has a bad title.

When I first went to school, the schoolwork wasn't the important part. It was responsibility in every other field. You needed to remember to bring your things.

Did you forget your lunch? You can't count on Mom to notice, and do you really want her there if she does? School was about learning to get along with others and having a community.

Elementary school: You forget your lunch. Your teacher notices, gives you a lunch and sends your mom a bill. Mom's pissed because they charged ten dollars for bottom-tier food.

Middle school: You don't want Mom to show up even if she notices you forgot your lunch. Your friends give you some of their food and you drink from the water fountain.

School is really about learning to manage increasing responsibility in a community, imo.

With the singularity supposed to be reached in the private sector within 5 years, meaning the miltary already has done so, a college degree in most things is effectively worthless. Always has been. The only degrees worth pursuing are those that cannot be replaced by AI or will be required by AI to function such as computer science and cybersecurity.

Most jobs that weren't essential during the pandemic are going to be obliterated which is going to be kino because a lot of useless HR hags, OF models, and other useless people are going to be pushed out of the top of their ivory towers very abruptly and it's going to be broooootallll and I think anyone who ever did a days work in a factory is licking their chops to see that day
