And it's gone to penalties.

I suspect this may be over for ENGERLUND.

Good.

Lazy dumb fucks at my work watching this shit rather than doing their job deserve to be upset.

(What do you work as anyhow?)

From the BBC live text feed:

Hmmmm, what's wrong with this?

FTFY. That's better.

And Eric Dier gets ENGERLUND through on penalties. Would you have credited it. A penalty shootout that they win, and James Rodriguez on suicide watch.

Welp there goes my fiver.

The one year I have money riding on another team and England only goes and does it.

Maybe I should do this more in the future. Who knows what might happen?

Is this the only time we've ever won a shootout in a world cup? Genuinely didn't think I'd live to see it.

oh boy, can't wait for another week of IT'S COMIN' HOME, LA on /sp/

Don't worry. Sweden will park the bus like a twenty-year Routemaster veteran and ENGERLUND will go back to their usual penalty shootout failure.

Is this the only time we've ever won a shootout in a world cup? Genuinely didn't think I'd live to see it.

I believe it is. Though in the quarters of Euro 96 they beat Spain on penalties before losing to Germany in the semis on penalties. Mainly because Gareth Southgate (yes, that one) stuffed up his shot.

England wins a penalty shootout?! Never thought I'd see the day. And yes, they've never won one in a world cup before.

Let's see if Sweden still has Englands number, like in the good old days.

I watched all the game and I have to say, ENGERLUND were playing a lot better than the Colombians, who seemed to be relying on gamesmanship in the hope that one of our chaps would do something exceptional like retaliate and get himself sent off. But then they had a break of actually playing well near the end and it paid off when they got one in, and ENGERLUND seemed, well, too shocked by it to manage to put in the winning goal in extra time.

I can't believe England actually won.

That's not supposed to happen you know, they're supposed to remain shit so everyone has something to complain about.

Well, we've finally reached the Quarters. Next two games are on the 6th:
Uruguay-France

Brazil-Belgium

This is usually the point it becomes harder to predict who'll win. First game can really go either way. I am not convinced by France's defence. Last game with Argentina they let in three goals while Uruguay only let in one from Portugal, a much more stable opponent imho. I heard Cavani, who has been Uruguay's star player this time around, was a question mark as far as injuries go, but if he's healthy, France needs to be prepared. Personally, I want Uruguay to win, but I also believe they actually can do it.

Belgium is a lot like France in that their defence can be really sloppy. They have however shown great resilience and don't let being behind ruin their morale. Brazil is shown great form this cup, though I also hope at some point a ref will stop babying Neymar so we don't have to see him roll around like his [insert random body part] got broken by an opposing player breathing on him. He really does ruin any sympathy you can have for Brazil. That said, they still have the best chance of winning the entire thing, so we'll have to see what Belgium has in store for them.

Sweden 1 - 0 Switzerland
A nothing special match, overall - however, Sweden going through is A-OK with me. As for Switzerland and their history of only getting so far in World Cup in general (same as with Mexico)? Can't say I'm surprised - I thought US was bad at this. Almost feels good knowing we're not the only ones... not really.

England 1 - 1 Colombia
PENALTIES: England 4 - 3 Colombia

Another nothing special match that only truly got interesting in the 2nd Half - and honestly, I was somewhat rooting for Colombia to beat these lucky motherfuckers, because this was clearly the only way England was truly winning anything at this point in World Cup. I expect them to get their asses handed to them in quarterfinals after this as punishment for such a robbery.
