World of Warcraft Rank 1 Player Reckful Commits Suicide

People with bipolar go through mixed episodes. They can be completely benevolent one minute and completely destructive the next. Hence proposing and then killing himself in the same night. The most important thing I think it is for a bipolar person to know is that when you're feeling a way it's just a phase that will pass. Good advice for anyone really but bipolar people especially or you'll drive yourself crazy overthinking your past or just end up having enough and killing yourself.

I've never heard of this guy before but it honestly made me shed a tear knowing that with his condition he would've bounced back to normal in a couple days.

World of warcraft notoriously has one of the worst communities you can find online, and it makes me roll my eyes when blizzard has done shit all to really qualm it except for their 'no bullying : ((( ' campaign they did with overwatch. not saying that the WoW community is to blame, but man having to put yourself in that spotlight for that community after so many years doesn't really help with the added mental health problems the dude already seemed to have. Hell, even just sound minded people say "fuck that" after just dealing with it for a bit and then back away from the game entirely

I hope all his affected friends and family can find peace sooner rather than later, shits not easy to deal with
the game, and the community with it, has been around way too long for its own good. the wow playerbase in 2020 is pretty much entirely unrecognizable compared to what it was in the 2000s. back then, it was mostly a mix of normies, dudebros, and nerds. today it feels more like a mix of tumblrites, redditors, and discord trannies.

Well, when you have chats full of people being the most horrid individuals, telling him to kill himself, it's going to take it's toll.

I used to watch his streams quite a bit, and still tended to pull it up as background noise, even not having played WoW in years and years. I won't claim to be a friend because I only knew him through his stream, but it's a super unfortunate situation.

This year has not been kind, and the 'rona/quarantine is bringing out the worst. We're not meant to be isolated to such a degree, and it undoubtedly is not good for your mental health if you were fine before. But to have issues in the first place? It's pushing them wildly out of control.

Yup, 2020 has been a bad one.

need an "edgy" rating for posts like these
The edginess of that post,
He was just weak. Defective.
Even worms have a self-preservation instinct.

I got no sympathy for the suicidal. At best I'm hoping for some kind of "point proving" shock value suicide a la Budd Dwyer to analyze and laugh at.
What an edgelord.

Barely aware of Reckful till he was no longer, but it should be a perfect example of not letting poor mental fester. Also prayer, which is free. Anyhow things broken need fixing. He was in a broken state of mind for a long time, judging from reading the thread. Sad, may he find peace.

The reaction to his death has been.... well I don't know what I expected.
  • 'We just need to force more positivity, ban all negativity'
  • 'Just shout down people that disagree with you if you think they are toxic'
  • *uses death to attempt to start a conservation on why this is all actually about racism*
  • 'People just need to be better; No social media isn't the problem'
All these 'solutions' to prevent more suicides I am hearing are just going to drive more people to suicide in the long term.
Woke crowd using a suicide as a blunt tool to attempt more power grabs and deflect blame from what grants them power (social media), color me surprised.
The dude had pre-existing conditions, playing Vidya for a living prolly was more of a relief than a burden, i honestly believe a 9 to 5 soul crushing job would had worsen his state despite the monotony of playing WoW instead because as little as it was WoW provided him social interaction with other people who where into the same interest as him, but WoW has become such a shit game that its just not worth to play anymore with classic being the only redeeming quality, but he made his name in retail WoW so he was pretty much stuck, there's only so much playing the same shit game over and over that just gets worse every year can do before you can't take anymore, some pro-players of other games opt for jumping to commentary or coaching or something else once they feel they've reached their peak, this is a savvy move since those skills translate well into any other games or even other media so they can just hop onto new trends and still have meaningful relationships while building new ones, but when you develop skills as highly specific as WoW and hold the crown of the best ever for so long, you're pretty much stuck to the sinking ship, and that's perhaps what made him snap, may the poor soul rest in peace

The higher end raiding scene is basically the same as it was in the 2000s. Minor powerleveling, but I’m pushing Famed Slayer on Horde and my guild is composed of dudebros and nerds.

The really shitty tumblr types are locked to casual content and RP servers, and it really doesn’t seem that Blizzard gives much of fuck about them. They’ll throw an odd bone from time to time (there’s an FTM Transgender minor character in Shadowlands.) but blizzard has always cared about the normie audience first and foremost.
