World of Warcraft

Project Epoch will open in just a few hours. its crazy how the server exploded in popularity after the latest test run. It got so big, they had to open up another server just so it would not be overcrowded.

it started at 11k

...FUCK!

They had to disable the server queues and registrations to their site for the moment.

Discord admins had to go in and tell the epoch discord to shut down their voice chat because it made their service lag

K2 SERVER POPULATION AND LEVEL 10 CAP UNTIL SERVER IS FIXED.

Jesus Christ how are they so popular? I was gonna try and hop on but I can't even get in the Discord.
When the Blizzard version is so shit that continues to make the story gayer it's easy to attract people to an ok product. Bobby Kotick really needed to step in and start cleaning house on the WoW team as they proved time and time again they were incapable of delivering a competent product in a timely manner. Even with Classic, something that brought them a good amount of interest look at how glacial of a pace they developed anything new for it. Meanwhile private servers are pumping out content with volunteer skeleton crews.

I have no idea if this is true trolling, I'll try to start with the facts: there is currently a level cap of 15 to make it more fair for people who are stuck in queue. What's the new problem caused by this?

Well, allegedly the people hit level cap are farming gold. Yes, you read that right, people are grinding for in-game pennies. Rumours circulate that people have already stockpiled anything between 30 and 600 gold on their accounts. People are dooming that the server economy will be fucked. More immediate problem is that these (alleged) gold farmers are taking slots from people who've yet to reach level 5 on a single character. (There's also speculation that people will start churning alts and/or maxing out professions after hitting 15 on their main.)

This. 1000%. It should be so braindead easy to attract jilted former WoW players, but Blizz just makes it look hard by being so goddamned retarded.

Also, thinking about it for more than 5 seconds, the 30-600 gold claim actually is believable. What people are probably doing is corpse walking to chests in higher level zones and vendoring whatever is in them. The Stv chest alone is 5 gold minimum each time.

If you spergs want to play classic+, just go play on turtle wow which hasn't dropped the ball.
Rather than just putting tbc talents in vanilla, they've completely revamped talents and skills to make every build viable.
They've also added new raids/dungeons.

also this is releasing soon.tm

people will do anything to make a quick buck, and given how small their team is it's going to be a real problem. They still have listings up, recruiting Moderators & GMs

Update: it was an unintended consequence for capping the level. they were getting bonus gold as a boon for reaching level cap, which should have only happened at actual max level.

We are aware that some players are obtaining large amounts of gold by completing quests at level 15, due to the bonus received for being at the level cap. Players with unusually large amounts of gold (relative for a level 15, nobody has gotten more than 30 gold) will have their gold reduced to more sane values to protect the early economy, and we will be disabling Warsong Gulch Marks of Honor, Bloody Tokens, and money from completing a Battleground until the level cap is increased so players cannot farm too much prior to issues being resolved. We have identified major performance bottlenecks and we are hard at work at fixing these, however these are not quick things to fix. Please bear with us in the meantime. Although we had a smooth stress test at 2k, things start falling apart slightly above 3k, these things are exponential and you can't really know where you'll hit problems until you hit them. As for the increased performance issues with Kezan we have been able to confirm that this was simply caused by more players being near each other in 1-6 areas, with there being 1300 people in the 1-6 starting areas at multiple points, while players on Gurubashi spread out more quickly. Both servers start failing at around the same population, the variance is caused by where players are and what they are doing. This means that we are finished investigating the kezan/gurubashi differences and are focused on other performance issue causes.Ore and Herb node spawns are no longer part of the Dynamic Respawn system as well, but quest objects still are. We are working on allowing a separate Dynamic Respawn pool specifically for profession nodes so we can prevent instant respawns.Additionally we are working on implementing a round-robin queue system that groups up chunks of accounts. We're still working out the exact timing, but this means that players will only be allowed to enter the server if their account is currently eligible. When this allotted time ends players currently online will be kicked so that others can log in and play. We can't guarantee that there won't still be a queue. The servers will not come back up until this is implemented.

Gonna be a bad time if they implement round-robin & time limits for playtime. Can't wait to get disconnected in an instance.

Anything to avoid pay-pigging for blizzard i guess.
I imagine for most people It's not about the pay pigging, its about having a server that's backed by a mod team and developers. The official blizz servers are ran worse than any pserver I've participated in, the wow experience is abysmal. Epoch had my interest, but this release I think is pretty telling about what can be expected from this team.

Alright its been a day and they've had some time to cool down, how is project epoch going to fix this mess they've gotten themselves into.

They're working on it in two shifts with US devs and EU devs on it. They managed about 2100 with the new changes, with debugging tools enabled.

The crashes and lag from before has had unintended consequences even down to character creation. My guess is incomplete transactions and deadlocks, with possibly the SQL server crashing mid transaction.

This Night Elf Druid is missing their racials and custom passive bonus for critical strike.

"how are they going to fix this mess"

By fixing long standing technical debt with TrinityCore or die trying.

Epoch is still down.

Oh you also can't register anymore, maybe for weeks or over a month. Not that you can login anyway.
