Tornado Cash is a cryptocurrency "mixer" which enabled people to launder cryptocurrency - North Korea used this service heavily and as such it was added to the US government's sanctions list in a highly contentious action (it is neither a country, nor a person, but a piece of software that exists only on the internet)
Today the US government announced that it has lifted the sanctions - this is an extremely significant moment as it means the US government cannot sanction a piece of software/code.

People have been celebrating this, and someone decided to create a new website for it, this...

Tornado Cash (an Ethereum based mixer/anoymizer/money laundering service) was recently unsanctioned by the US government. So someone can just trade USDC<>ETH via a DEX (decentralized exchange, which requires no KYC) then tornado cash it to anonymize it and then sell it for cash or whatever. (Yes - the US government effectively legalized a money laundering service)

It will reach the point where you can just buy cards or whatever from the gas station or supermarket for smaller amounts (up to a couple of hundred bucks) and although the above methods certainly aren't fool proof unless you're actively pissing off NSA-level adversaries then you'll be fine. It's extremely unlikely that if you have wallet with a few hundred bucks in it that anyone would expend the effort required to phonebook you unless you're doing some truly heinous/outrageous shit.

I think Kagi (which touts itself as a truly free and unfucked search engine) had something similar going on with paying by the penny to do search inquiries. If there's any service that would benefit the most from this new feature, it should be Kagi.

When your revolutionary new technology isn't compatible with normies(99% of the population) it's probably not going to be as revolutionary as you think. Which is why any crypto scheme that doesn't also allow you to purchase the thing with fiat is a flop.

Thats why there is an AI tie-in for the API and Anthropic are one of the sponsors. The actual vision is to have normies talk to Claude on their phone, say "Order me McDonalds on Door Dash" and it does it with 0 friction. They can get easy processing fees off of the convenience. The protocol isn't the product, its infrastructure to enable the product. They're playing the long game to take a cut out of every transaction from Shanequa who is too lazy to even open an app to make a purchase. When all of this is combined together it will probably allow fiat conversions and those conversions will also allow for more transaction fees.

Amazon Alexa already exists it does the same shit and people don't particularly use it. Even the most gorilla brain dead idiot doesn't trust a computer to make it's purchases for them and thats with a simple chat bot not an unpredictable LLM that will randomly decide extra pickles means it needs to order 5 extra big macs.

Then it can work with tari.com which is founded by fluffypony (ex Monero dev) and is being merge-mined with XMR, plus, tari is private by default a la Monero
 
Update: Google has now partnered with Coinbase to make AI Agents that pays for things using x402. @neger psykolog pinging for notif.
