Xbox Game Studios Stupidity Hate Thread Game Pass Edition

I'll stick with my Switch
I was just about done with console gaming but picked up a used switch lite for those occasions I'm traveling.
Damn thing hooked me good and next thing I know I own all 3 current gen consoles.
On a do over I would have just bought an OLED and a PS5. (I skipped the PS4 so I don't really feel bad about buying the 5 because I have a lot of stuff I missed out on.)

Xbox One modding is almost here:
This will be a game changer for Xbox One! Soon we’ll see emulators and homebrew games getting ported to the system except the official dev mode already has those…
It’ll open the doors to piracy of all kinds of great Xbox One exclusives like… uh…
We’ll get to use mods and cheat in games assuming the PC versions of those games don’t already have mods and cheats…
It’ll allow for system menu customization like changing the wallpaper which you can already do…

… What’s the point of this, again?

I am probably going to pick up a PS5 Pro if it does actually come out this year, for nothing else but to play PS4 games (like Cold Steel 1-4 and Yakuza 5 onwards) with good loading times.

I would like to do this to ensure the games I own just plain work even when their servers are offline.

That's pretty pathetic.

I would likely need to leave my xbox unusable for some indeterminate amount of time until modding progresses to allow that. And I would run the risk of having my console banned.

4 year since the Fable announcement trailer and they still can't fucking show actual gameplay. This trailer was literally the same thing as the one from last year. An ugly faggot having a pretend interview about heroes, with some obvious bullshots of gameplay being shown for a second at a time.
And still only 2025... I'm not even going to be surprised when it's delayed to 2026.

Due to nostalgia, I'm unfortunately a Fable fan, I grew up with the first game, played it like a billion times. I don't think any of the Fable games are anything more than just good, but they did have a unite atmosphere which is sorely missing from the slop they've shown so far.

I don't expect them to make this anything but a generic Dragon Age style action RPG with more British shit. The bizarre but comfy atmosphere of The Lost Chapters and Two will never be captured by modern devs, especially since there is no unique British identity in existence any longer.

In all seriousness, the Xbox One & Series lines would make great little HTPCs if they could be hacked down to a level where you could replace their OS with Linux. Though I‘d be shocked if that happened. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Xboxes had something built into the CPU itself that insisted on phoning home for a code whenever the OS is reinstalled, Can you even do a full OS install on a zeroed-out HDD offline? I know the Xbox One was designed to not allow the user to replace the HDD.

Why would you buy an Xbox?
If I were to buy an Xbox, it'd probably be for three reasons

1. I have a bigger digital collection on Xbox ecosystem than Playstation, and their BC is better.
2. I like the design of the the Xbox more than PS5.
3. If GTA VI is actually good and I decide I don't want to wait for PC.
Edit: 4. I still own my Rockband shit from Xbox One and I hear it still works with Series S/X

I'd mention my console friends, but both my Xbox and Sony friends are fucking annoying as shit when it comes to gaming. It's kind of sad that my purchase of an Xbox would have almost everything to do with old games and console design and nothing to do with anything they've done in the past 4-5 years. (which is why I still won't get one, but I'd get one before a PS5)

There are ways to install Kodi in developer mode but it's not an slick experience and you know a cheap mini pc makes a lot more sense for that.

Isn't there some Patreon faggotry with the devs of the emulators where your monthly payment gets you a super-secret code to get access before MS inevitably finds out and bans it? This development is worth it for fucking with their Patreon alone.

That died out probably a year ago, and was only done so that dev mode wouldn’t be necessary in the first place.

Though I don’t see why you’d want to fuck with their Patreon in the first place, but here’s another alternative I guess.

My X1X died with a code that turned out to be a fucked HDD. It would crash whenever I booted up a game.
I bought a kingston SSD and swapped that fucker out, which was a 10 minute job. All You need is to download some software on your PC and plug the SSD into that, or use a USB, I can't recall properly, it's not hard anyway. It loads a little quicker now.

If I can hack my X1X (I have 3 of them in various houses) I would be a happy man and pirate the fuck out of every game in the xbox catalogue.

I'm suddenly seeing a shit ton of videos of Star Wars mods for Starfield.

Would it behoove Microsoft to immediately cut a deal with Disney and get Obsidian to pump out a Star Wars game using the tools from Starfield Creation Engine?

Reading this thread has only proved my opinion of xbox being a thing thanks to halo and having a controller that has decent ergonomics and doesnt feel like shit to use for long periods of time ( and i guess PGR and ninja gaiden ).

Based on what EA was saying, Disney's terms are so onerous that it makes more sense to make a new IP.

Which is exactly what Bethesda did.
