Xbox Game Studios Stupidity Hate Thread Game Pass Edition

This console is fucking dead.

Wow, the very expensive machine that gives absolutely no incentive to buy one isn't selling well! Good job, black lady CEO who attended both Yale and Harvard, with a career where she jumps from one executive role to another in giant businesses without actually accomplishing anything.

This console is fucking dead.

Don't forget they also have a refresh of the Series X without disc drive already in the cards, and I bet this wil be the sku they will push moving forward.

At this point, I think that Microsoft is making consoles purely to spite Sony (you could argue that they stay in the gaming industry for the same reason really). They never had business sense, vision or passion for gaming.
I think that too. The digital Series X has a 1TB SSD, the disc drive one has a 2TB one. Genius!

It was officially confirmed by Microsoft. And unless something changed in the past 2 months that I'm not aware of, it is very real.

What kind of person wants an Xbox enough to opt for a Series X All Digital, because they feel like a Series S isn't enough, but still want to save like $50 to omit the disc drive?

Holy shit, I thought all this time that people were bullshitting it looked like a fridge. I have a PC case or two from the 90s lying around that have more artistry in the design.

They just want to move away from physical media period. On consoles right now, but eventually on PC for everything. And move everyone into a license model for all software. I can't wait for the day where Windows has a monthly fee or my mouse and keyboard being functional are tied to a ransom fee like a hostage negotiation.

They don't want the old consume practices of purchasing hardware and software and owning them. They want to stop you from owning anything including forcing a hardware lease as well.

No, it's a literal brick. I almost respect them a little for saying "ah, fuck it" to designing an increasingly mutated-looking monstrosity like Sony did with the PS5 and just going with a god damn box. It's called an Xbox after all.

The XSX was an after thought because Phil Spencer got high on his own supply and believed Sony would release a low-powered console with similar spec to the series S. That's why the series S is 'better' designed with more aesthetics than the S.
However, it was a sneaky bit of corporate espionage by Sony; they told some devs they were making a weak model and wouldn't release full specs until very close to launch.

When MS found out about the real specs of the PS5, which are genuinely impressive, Mark Cerny is a genius, Spencer et al shit their pants and needed to make a console more powerful than the PS5, and NOW!

So they jammed a load of off-the-shelf components together and threw them in a box. The first gen XSX were over-heating because 0 thought went into cooling or how it would work. Which is why, despite being more powerful on paper, the XSX runs games like dogshit.

The real funny part is Spencer released his twitter bots saying the XSX had RDNA 2 and PS5 only had RDNA1, which was a lie. AMD and Sony (mainly Cerny) collaborate on innovations and gave MS the off-the-shelf RDNA2 GPU, while Cerny custom built his chip to take bits of RDNA1, 2 and 3 (unreleased at the time) to make a far superior GPU to the XSX.

MS are buying the software because Sony, for all of their retardation, kicked their arse in the hardware department - the only part of Playstation that's not retarded, again thanks to Mark Cerny, the last old-school tech geek still giving a fuck in the industry.

I don't think any of this is true.

It is. The XSX had less time in the oven than the Xbox One did and that went from conception to market in just under two years. It's why it was a bloated sack of shit when it launched.

The Series S was the target console, the XSX was the afterthought and was originally meant to be the...well, Series X; the mid-gen refresh.

How can the Xbox Series X overheat when the airflow goes upward with a BIG vent on the top?

Airflow doesn't mean much if it's not flowing over/through the correct parts. It's also not helpful if there isn't enough of it. It's not enough to make noise with a fan; the air it moves has to perform meaningful heat transfer for it to be useful.

From the sounds of it, they put anemic heat sinks on the CPU, GPU and chipset and crammed everything into the case so tight there wasn't much actual airflow through the important bits (at least, not enough to handle temperatures produced by full workloads).

I like the Series S in white the most, they just had to fuck it up with the air vent being in black.

At least Mark Cerny being a tech wiz is true. He was the reason that Spyro was able to dynamically change texture quality based on distance from the camera, which was a massive innovation at the time. Most games going well into the PS2 generation relied solely on culling off-camera assets to free up memory.

Edit: And he was the head of the ICE Team, which had the goal of the making the purposely obtuse programming of the PS3 more decipherable for developers, which allowed the more dedicated teams like Naughty Dog to squeeze a lot more out of that stone than would be expected out of a console out for so long.

Because they jammed the parts in willy-nilly to make them fit, thinking it would work like a chimney, not realising hot air that goes up, is hot. Add to that MS seemingly incapability of making a lean running OS - remember Spencer saying "the tools are coming" for the first 18 months? Those 'tools' were the proper OS and instruction pack that hadn't been created. (My terminology may be incorrect, software isn't my forte)

Cerny created the PS4 on a shoe-string budget. A console so capable, despite its' lack of power, that it can run Horizon 2 and GoW 2 at 1080p/30fps.
Cerny, at 16 years old, wrote his own physics engine for the Mega-Drive/Genesis game 'marble madness'.
He created; the FP system, variable-speed clocks on PS5, the audio chip that allows 3D audio on the most basic bitch speakers as a fuck you to Dolby, The PS4-pro, a new cache/reading system that got load times of TLoU on PS4 from 1 min 30 seconds to 13 seconds and on and on. He's currently working with AMD for the PS5Pro which will utilise machine learning for RT, reducing the power requirement by 30% and some secret sauce to compete with Nvidia's tech.

Sony would be screwed without Cerny. The man is a modern day genius and his talks are great. Highly recommend watching him chat for over an hour about his design philosophy for the ps5 pre-launch. The man knows his stuff.
