Xbox Game Studios Stupidity Hate Thread Game Pass Edition

Also, the Game Pass is unsustainable. It gives money to the main company while taking away the credit from those who make the games. It is a horrible death spiral/catch-22: too damaging to game devs to let it continue and too profitable to the company to discontinue it.
There is no chance that Game Pass is profitable. Microsoft's entire cloud business is not profitable either when you remove Office 365 as it's the only thing that makes them money. And it relies on a heavily predatory model that forces a subscription fee and license on software that was once easily able to be purchased and owned for a smaller one time fee. If there was an equal competitor to Office and 365 from another company that MS would be losing money on essentially al aspects of its cloud operations.

Yet according to recent reports their Xbox 360 store is still profitable. Yet they are shutting it down this month. A competent government would be investigating why the once largest business is failing in all areas and self sabotaging. When it honestly should still be the largest and successful company in the world.

What will we call Xbox controllers if the Xbox brand is laid to rest?
They'll just call it a Microsoft Gamepad or something

I think there was a period late in the 360 life where they actually repackaged the wired controller with Microsoft branding instead of Xbox branding for the PC market before deciding to abandon GFWL and put it all under the Xbox banner.

I've seen cope from Xbots that this is geared towards "Grandma and grandpa who only have the kids for a week to a month in the summer" and I'm just shaking my head.

Microsoft desperately wants out of this gay console business.
I'm more than sure the grandkids have at least one smart device. They could just download the Xbox Game Pass app, have a Bluetooth controller, sign in and boom. Or just play mobile games on their phones and tablets. Game Pass is not sustainable with the price hike.

I bet they could keep calling it the Xbox controller long after the console is gone and no one would realize there was ever a console to begin with. The only thing keeping Xbox relevant in most gamers' minds are the controllers. Look at this thing.

Is this not the closest thing to perfection gamers have ever known? A design so good all the competitors continue to copy it years after it first launched.

I recall that being a driver issue. Lots of the first releases of wired 360 controllers would not work with any Windows OS with UPNP. So a few were made with proper drivers for plug and play before the issue was generally solved for 360 controllers. If you could find some of the oldest wired 360 controllers, both first and third party, they would simply not be detected by plugging them into a USB port to a PC until you manually installed a separate driver file.

Microsoft has responded to the FTC's claims about Game Pass being "degraded" with its price hike.

"It is wrong to call this a "degraded" version of the discounted Game Pass for Console offering. That discontinued product did not offer multiplayer functionality, which had to be purchased separately for an additional $9.99/month (making the total cost $20.98/month)."

"While Game Pass Ultimate's price will increase from $16.99 to $19.99/month, the service will offer more value through many new games available "day-and-date." Among them is the upcoming release of Call of Duty, which has never before been available on a subscription day-and-date."

I find this response bullshit. Game Pass Core, former known as Xbox Live Gold, was $9.99 a month. The Console tier was $10.99, but did not include online multiplayer? WTF? MS themselves promised that no changes would be made to Game Pass despite their Call of Duty acquisition. Ultimate used to cost $15 a month, now the Standard tier which DOESN'T include Day 1 games is $15 a month. It IS a degraded version, you're paying more for the same experience.

that's why it's called a retard tax (for equal opportunity hate, so is ps+)

So is the 360 marketplace dead now?
It’s shutting down today, but I think if you have a 360 you can make purchases still but I’m not sure. Thankfully the 360 servers aren’t shut yet but I’m sure that’s coming. It’s basically the shutdowns Nintendo have been doing but least Microsoft is letting you still play online for now at least.

Microsoft want the console to die. If they didn't a price cut would have happened, a new revision would be launched. Instead they increase the price and remove the disc drive.

They want out of the hardware market to go full software. If the rumours of them buy T2 are true, then that's that for hardware.
I feel like a lot of people have been saying this for 2 or 3 years now, but I think it's finally sinking in for Xbox fanboys and normies.

So the Sega route, then?

If true, that would mean we would only have Nintendo and Valve while Sony flounders in the corner doing whatever the hell it's currently doing.

Normally I'd be ok with just a two-party system, but in current year, that would just mean since they have no competition, they would try to find ways to fuck with the consumer more.

I agree. Luckily it's current year and PC Piracy has never been better because Sony and Xbox put their games on PC.

If the corpos wanna dance, then let's dance.
