Just what the world needed.

"Some PC players who decide to check out Horizon or Days Gone will even pick up a PS5 after doing so", he explained. "With a PS5, you can play any game you want", he said to himself, out loud.
What do the kids say? Copium.

The fact this Xbox branded slideshow announced on 2020 got a showcase yesterday with no release date yet is incredible:

The fact we went from Sunset Overdrive and Quantum Break to Life is Strange: Trans Edition and this is just fantastic.
A Power Point presentation has an install size larger than goddamn Elden Ring:

The internal files might be a gigantic mess.

Buy an Xbox Series X to get indie games.
You buy a PS5 to play PS4 movies, and you buy a series X to play cartoony indie games.

Both companies desperately need a third party blockbuster for their brack friday bundurus like Sony had with GTA V and Xbox One had with Assassins Creed back in 2014 I think

What do you blame on the lack of game output? Lack of originality? Development costs? Audiences? COVID?

Xbox Series X has more value than a PS5. But, and this is subjective, Game Pass mainly has indie titles. I think that's why MS is looking into allowing purchased games to be streamed on the Cloud.

The Series X|S system's ability to run RetroArch and emulation software makes them a far better value than the PS5 even with the added bonus of Game Pass.

All of the above

Covid set things back, which caused them to not properly be prepared for the demand of this generation. With fewer adopters of the current gen and the general cost of development nobody is willing to take risks on new IP's or anything that isn't cross generational. Audiences keep buying the same shit, so they see no reason to change what they are doing.

Both systems are limited gaming PCs, but the key difference is that Sony tries to pretend their consoles are still unique while Microsoft is all-in on turning their consoles into low-end gaming PCs without any exclusives. And I wouldn’t say that’s a bad thing; they know their weak points, so they focus on things like backwards compatibility (along with enhancement of old games), accessibility, ease of use, and Game Pass to give you the most bang for your buck. They’re also the only one of the big three to let you install emulators and other unofficial apps without any modding like a PC. Granted, this means there’s little reason to get an Xbox if you have a good gaming PC, but it feels like Microsoft is min/maxing instead of trying to do everything at once. (Also, the Series S controller is the only Bluetooth controller I’ve used that can swap between console and PC without having to go into Bluetooth settings and re-add it, so that’s nice.)

Wait, this is a hate thread…
With regard to games themselves, the Xbox brand peaked with XBLA, and Marble Blast Ultra and Uno on 360 have more personality than any Xbox exclusive made in the last 10 years.

Getting real tired of Microsoft letting their studios flounder in development woes. 343 has proven to be utterly incapable of living up to the "live" part of a live service games (on top of having the longest development cycle in Halo history yet releasing with even less content than 5), Rare is practically the Sea of Thieves studio with how they have no fucking clue about what to do with Everwild, Undead Labs can't get past preproduction on State of Decay 3 (no idea how that's possible when they aren't supporting SOD2 anymore and have nothing else in development), and The Initiative practically imploded to the point where a third party studio now has to drag Perfect Dark to the finish line. If this is all happening because Microsoft is too hands off, maybe they need to start taking a more hands on approach.

"Good things come to those who wait" my ass, I'm tired of Xbox failing to release games while PlayStation continues to run smoothly.

I know a guy who works for Rare and the last time I spoke to him he said that MS will provide all the support and tools that their devs need but they are fairly hands off otherwise.

It's pretty much giving an overarching idea of what they want and a timeframe of Q-whatever of whatever year and they let the studios do their own thing. They are trying to build first party franchises and IP so they are making it very attractive to be a part of their organisation.

It's kind of cute to think of the days when people were afraid of MS being too hands on when gobbling up all these studios and it may be the exact opposite that is the problem.
