Microsoft Is Investigating Why Devs Are Prioritising PS5 Over Xbox

Pretty simple, devs want to make money. Microsoft has trained their audience not to buy games.
Microsoft has a trend: Each successive generation has a more catastrophic flaw than the last. In the Xbox, they had growing pains. In the 360, they had system failures. In the One, they had a myriad of issues. And with the Series, they outright made it so that buying games is bad for the consumer. It is amazing really! Every time they make it harder and harder to buy their consoles.

Sony has done that as well.

I think it has more to do with console numbers. When nobody is buying games on either system you still want to go with the one that sold more.

Well, that and the Series S I guess. Nice to see devs are finally listening to me say "If it's holding you back so much, just don't fucking make a game for it"

Turn 10 (MS to an extent) has turned their flagship racing franchise, Forza, from a celebration of car culture to pale, corporate marketing akin to a car show.

Forza Horizon 5 has to be the most "safe" video game I've played yet. There's no stakes, no risk, no natural progression/personality. Everything feels contractually railroaded into going ONE way, which collides with "player expression" of its vinyl creator and "meta" car builds which dominate online play.

Forza Motorsport (8) omits features from previous FMs and has an "auto-drive" feature that practically lets the game plays itself.

Video game giant Activision Blizzard will start laying off employees at its Irvine and Santa Monica locations next month as parent company Microsoft Corp. looks to cut costs in its gaming division.
The Santa Monica-based video game maker notified about 400 employees of the layoffs on Sept. 12. By the end of the year, 140 employees will be cut from the Irvine facility and 110 will be laid off from the Santa Monica location, according to a state notification filed by Activision Blizzard.
Additionally, the company’s Playa Vista location will begin layoffs in November and cut a total of 143 employees by the end of the year, according to a separate notice.

The Activision Blizzard layoffs are part of Microsoft’s move to cut 3% of its global gaming employees, or 650 people. Microsoft completed its acquisition of Activision Blizzard last year after much scrutiny by antitrust regulators. The $69-billion deal is the biggest in video game history.
In an email earlier this month to staff, Microsoft Gaming Chief Executive Phil Spencer said the cuts were “part of aligning our post-acquisition team structure and managing our business,” according to Variety. He said the affected jobs were largely in “corporate and supporting functions.”
The Southern California layoffs seemed to reflect this, with eliminated positions coming from areas including recruiting, IT and human resources.

Geez, Remember how things would be better once Microsoft bought Activision?

"This is still an Xbox" as the Series S' tagline is possibly the least confident, most embarrassing marketing I've seen this decade.

It's a fitting successor to the Xbox One "beta tested in the future" ad.

Game Pass, Xbox Series S, platform parity/unity; I can SEE where MS is coming from with being pro consumer with the Xbox brand. The practice in their strategies are diluting the Xbox brand long term.

Series S is not as powerful as the Series X; therefore, they created a problem for developers to accommodate for the weaker hardware if they want to release for Xbox. Withal, the new generation cannot naturally progress because developers may have to downgrade their titles.

Game Pass was a good value for a diverse lineup of video games for a monthly fee until they bought Activision. Now, it skyrocketed in price while offering little additional value to the consumer.

What's the point of getting an Xbox if all you'd need is a phone/tablet/Fire Stick and a monthly sub?

Game Pass was never a good deal for anyone. It caused developers to make games with short content and limited timed events. And came with a strategy from Microsoft to move away from long playing games or rich games like Diablo II or New Vegas or whatever.

None. If the Xbox is nothing more than another Game Pass machine you might as well purchase a PS5 with a Bluray drive and a bunch of exclusive games.
