Xbox Game Studios Stupidity Hate Thread Game Pass Edition

And, of course, they can always sell it on after they give up
its microsoft, they don't just give shit up. When was the last time someone used Skype or Hololens or the Kinect or Zune? All shit they'd rather keep small rather than let someone else buy it and turn it into something good. For fucks sake they've had rare for 20 years and if you take out the ports all they've made is shovelware and Viva pinata and one more banjo and that pirate game.

Bungie.

They sold off Bungie, killed or sold off Windows Phone and I'm pretty sure Zune is dead. At least there are people who still use Skype.

Anyone else hearing these reports of Starfield being the #1 seller last month on top of Lies of P selling a million+ copies?

Some are saying that it's a sign that Gamepass isn't a sales killer and that the games that have failed on it just weren't anything people wanted, but I don't know I think Starfields early access thing suckered a lot of people more than anything.

To be fair I still see Kinect all the time in malls and museums for dumb exhibits where you stand in front of the camera and make lights barely change in some dumb art project

Starfield isn't number one in sales, I think Fifa beat it or some other yearly pleb game.

Edit: Oh, it is in US only sales.

Be careful reading the wording of some reports, as 'sales' and 'played by' is often a number mixed up on purpose. If 20 million people played Starfield, it doesn't mean 20 million sales occurred (i know we know this but it's worth repeating).

Starfield may be the most played game, though I doubt it will have moved more than 1 million copies. The vast majority of people who buy xbox exclusives are steam-exclusive PC users.

Look, I get you guys *really* want Starfield to be a massive flop but these sales figures come from NPD and as far as I know they only track sales.
Don't project your faggotry onto me. I couldn't give a fuck if it sells or doesn't if people love it or hate it.

I'm point out the obvious that, other than steam autists and low-iq spastics, that the majority of people will play starfield for free* on Gamepass.

A digital download is a 'sale'. The definition changed, just like Microsoft changed a 'sale' - when a person buys a game, to 'sold-through' which is when Microsoft sell a game or console to a company like Gamestop or Amazon.

Could have fooled me with how you come in here sperging out like a mad faggot over the definition of what is or isnt a sale and how Microsoft changed the definition when we're reporting what a seperate reporting company is saying and not Microsoft.

Microshit doesn't even call GamePass downloads/players sales in the internal corporate buzzword emails. They will always refer to it as players since that's nebulous enough marketing speech that has big number on the attached image.
That and they want to make sure that Xbot consoomers are still into the PC race as oppose to the console race, even though not a lot of people even take the idea of consoles seriously after 2011.

MS to "double down" on game plans....

www.darkhorizons.com/microsoft-to-double-down-on-game-plans/

Partner preview on Oct 25th
i think what it means is shit like no $1 promos or giving a free month for turning on auto-renew or other tricks they let people get away with to get gamepass for super cheap. Starfield cost $100 for early access, or months earlier you could get 3 years of game pass for also $100. even the gamepass twitter account was memeing about doing stuff like buying 3 month gamepasses and doing the auto-renew trick to get 4 months for the price of 3, meaning they knew and allowed the various loopholes. Telling people on official social media pages how to get a 25% discount is not good for business.

Having said that i remember one youtuber whining about how bad microsoft is doing all these studios by forcing them into AAA gaming titles that because of their high budgets and expected ROI are very samey. Why not scale down these studios and just churn out smaller Indie-esque titles instead, instead of one game every 5 years, why not make them produce a new game every year but its more niche and xbox360 sized instead. games like New Vegas or the Arkham games were made in less than two years and are still loved to this day, but also couldn't be made today because of the expectations and cost of modern gaming. If the heads over at microsoft realized this startegy i'd be amazed. especially when they squandered rare the last 20 years. but with how many studios they've brought up to just let sit around like rocksteady. you'd think even having them make some bullshit so they can have something that isnt a port on the gamepass would be an obvious move. Why pay millions for the latest games when you have all these devs at home?

I imagine what's happening a lot is that Microsoft is buying the studio and the IP, but not the people.
Microsoft is bleeding devs faster than they can acquire studios, they finally managed to seal the deal on ActivisionBlizzard, but in the same month a lot of the veterans at Bethesda left
