Xbox Game Studios Stupidity Hate Thread Game Pass Edition

Honestly what is more painful, the decline of xbox or the decline of playstation?
Now that Microsoft owns every other IP it's far more painful seeing where Xbox and MS Gaming are. They have a near stranglehold on the top Western based franchises. Fallout? Diablo? Starcraft? Halo? Gear of War? Quake? Wasteland? Doom? Does anyone think that a Fallout game on the level of 1,2 or NV will ever be made again? That Halo will ever recover? Starcraft new RTS or Ghost?

And Microsoft is pushing for the all digital future and Gamepass level garbage harder than anyone.

SONY? God of War franchise is in a terrible direction. Twisted Metal, Killzone, and Resistance are dormant or dead. Ratchet and Clank's last game was possibly a bomb. SONY appears to be on its deathbed as far as Playstation goes.

Honestly neither of these companies look like they have any future beyond purchasing and monopolizing IPs and pushing out goyslop (digital only).

Remember when the 360 had UNO on the Arcade? Such a simple game that took full advantage of Xbox Live's social features.

Playing UNO was a great way to see a random penis.

Good times.

I'm old. I played NES > SNES > Playstation 1/PC > Playstation 2 (which I saved money mowing lawns for).

The only reason I went with a 360 was the price point. Then I built a huge Xbox live friends base of real life and Internet friends. The social part was the only reason I kept with the brand.

Now as everyone is too busy with kids there isn't a game that can draw all my friends online. I probably won't buy another console after this gen. I'll just play classic PC Games like Home world and Moreowind on GOG

Microcok is overhauling their achievement system (which has been regarded as the best in gaming)
says fucking who? bboy360?

ubisoft gave you a financial incentive to play their game games, even valve gives you chance of a random booster once you 100% a game (which you can still sell), all MS gives you is a fucking meaningless number, same as sony (in form of trophies).

From my limited understanding as someone who is neither a Xbox or an achievement hunter I think they like the strategy of it. Xbox will tell you how many points an achievement offers you which allows you to prioritize what achievement you want to do next. They all add up to your GamerScore that people find satisfying and it gives you decent bragging rights.

Achievements on Steam are pretty meaningless because you can just press a button and get them all. Also, people need to care about Ubislop games to care about their shitty achievements.

Xbox was never truly great. Aside from having the game that standardized the console FPS control scheme and introducing normie-friendly online play, they've always relied on third parties and console exclusivity. As much of a joke they are now, Sony put out multiple bangers a year by their own hand for like a decade straight that you had to either get a Playstation or go without.

Ahhh that takes me back. I'll always remember playing it on the 360. Even some of the Sega games I've played on Arcade back in the day, such as Sega Superstars Tennis and Boom Boom Rocket. Good times

You say this as if Sony didn't take off thanks to Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, etc. etc. etc.

Hell, one of the big modern Sony Pony talking points is that Sony exclusives didn't get good until the PS3/PS4 (which is why they killed off most the PS1/PS2 IPs), and everyone knows that's just cope because it's all they had at that point.

I was gonna suggest Rayman and Tomb Raider, but they were actually Sega exclusives first before they ended up being popular on Sony in the late-90s and then other consoles throughout the 2000s

I mean, they own Obsidian so yes, I do think a NV-type game can still be made. And yes, there will be a Starcraft 3, though it will, at best, be only as good as 2 and not the original.

Microsoft chaps my ass because they have a death grip on studios that used to make games I was interested in, not that modern Obsidian or Bethesda wouldnt have shat the bed on their own anyway. I maintain that Starfield and Avowed would have been better games without Microsoft meddling.

The future will just be on PC with Linux and smaller tier indie games. We are watching the slow implosion of the AAA scene in real time.

I think there's a decent chance Obsidian eventually ran out of money and shut down if Microsoft didn't buy them. Possibly the only studio to really benefit from Microsoft's XBO era spending spree. And I guess the AoE people too, since MS owned the IP all along anyway.

That goes for all the smaller studios they bought, like Double Fine. But maybe it would have been better for the studios to die than to turn into Rare.

In MS's ownership of Rare's defense they were allowed to try making old Rare games for like a solid decade despite audiences turning their noses up at Conker: L&R, Kameo, VP and N&B. Then they kept the studio around even after discontinuing Kinnect support and let them sink years into building SoT and EW.

Or, to put it another way, when Nintendo decided to sell Rare the two leading bidders were Activision and Microsoft and I can guarantee that Bobby would have killed the studio after Kameo and PD0 failed.

they are probably shit games because microsoft didn't meddle. same as bioware/dice under EA, or a closer example 343. any studio with oversight (and not shit management, to be fair) would never get away with the shit those studios do, but here we are.
