Documents submitted by Microsoft in the legal dispute with the FTC have revealed the roadmap for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, including details about the mid-gen refresh and the real "next-gen Xbox" among a ton of other highly confidential information and game announcements. This is possibly the biggest leak in videogame history.

Microsoft Mistakenly Posts Secret Game Plans to Government Site

September 19, 2023 at 3:11 PM UTC
Microsoft Corp. mistakenly uploaded confidential information about its video-game operations to a federal court website, according to a person familiar with the matter and a post from a Federal Trade Commission employee.
“The FTC was not responsible for uploading Microsoft’s plans for its games and consoles to the court website,” the FTC’s director of public affairs wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The documents uploaded Monday are exhibits in the FTC’s antitrust suit to stop Microsoft from completing its $69 billion takeover of game giant Activision Blizzard Inc. They contain proprietary information about Microsoft’s plans for a refreshed Xbox console, upcoming unannounced video games and older discussions around purchasing Nintendo Co.
Future plans regarding new consoles, upcoming titles and M&A discussions are closely guarded secrets in the video-game world, meaning Microsoft’s inadvertent disclosure will be of keen interest to other players.

A person familiar with the matter, who asked not to be identified discussing the confidential information, said Microsoft was responsible for uploading the documents.
In June, confidential documents pertaining to Sony Group Corp. leaked as part of the FTC case. The files described Sony’s revenue from Activision’s Call of Duty and game-development costs.
Microsoft didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Ohhhh so that’s how Phil’s going to deal with the console wars. Just buy up all the competition, what a wholesome big chungus true pro gamer move Mr. Spencer.

I am surprised that they're only just now adding an accelerometer to the controller. Well, that'll be nice when I'm emulating Switch games.

What's the point of a no-disc Xbox Series X, though? Other than more storage, I see no advantages whatsoever. You may as well just get a Series S for half the price.

I hope Xbox fails to become profitable just for this alone.
I did testing on Stadia and Luna for work stuff. Stadia could actually push decent looking 4k, but it used mind bending amounts of bandwidth to do so. 75+mbit at times. Anyone who can afford an internet connection that can tank that can also afford a console and go the no compromises route. It makes no sense.

ETA: Also their solution of pushing GPU laden servers down into ISPs for latency is such a goddamn non starter it's rediculous. ISPs already hate googleflixkamai's caching servers because it's the tech companies pushing their electric and cooling bills onto them.

Are they still going to make the regular Series X, or do you just have to start praying that your disc drive doesn't pack up? Still, can't wait for our glorious cloud future where I sit in a queue to play a game at 240p which disconnects if I've paused for too long.

I believe that the mid-gen refreshes are re-releases of the consoles with new innards but the same name.

For those unaware, the Xbox one X is not an Xbox One with spec's turned up. It's almost an entirely new console sold as a 'pro' or mid-gen refresh.

Right now, the Series console are struggling running graphically intensive games. There are bottlenecks which are causing big problems with co-op, split-screen and running above 30fps in some games. Consider the lack of co-op in Halo, the jank in Medium, the pop-in in Forza, the lack of a promised 60fps patch for Redfall and the inability for Xbox to get BG3 running on the console, to name but a few.

Luckily for Spencer's job, all of this has been hidden behind the blame of woke incompetence in all of their studios. Did it not seem strange that after multiple major fuck ups with Halo that it took over a year before the management team was changed? Even then, the excuse was for 'personal reasons'. No, the reason they weren't fired long before was because the Series consoles are broken.

It's partly the reason that, despite Phil Spencer promising in 2016 with the X1X reveal and again with the Series reveals (4k@120fps) that there is no VR on the console. It has little, if anything, to do with the 'popularity' of VR.

For those reasons, MS will do everything they can to re-release the consoles, without saying that the insides will be completely gutted and changed. Luckily, MS and Spencer have been saved due to the sheer incompetence of

Personally, I don't think it will be as late as 2025 when the refreshes drop, especially if Sony drop theirs next year.

Microsoft desperately need to keep the Xbox in the news cycle. These slides and this information was leaked by Microsoft (it's all over the internet that this is true) and I partly believe it's a marketing leak, nothing more.

That Nintendo letter also says that they wanted to buy Valve. Thank goodness they didn't...

It's a miracle that Valve haven't been bought yet. They are worth relatively very little compared to Epic, Tencent, Acti, Ubi, EA, yet they compliment both Sony and Microsoft's strategy perfectly; Instant access to the PC space and a store-front to boot.

Likewise, I'm surprised that CDPR were not snapped up on the cheap after the Cyberpunk fiasco.

Valve's unusual in that IIRC it's owned entirely by Gabe and his wife, and he's already got "fuck you" money.

Most of these ones are boring

I'm more worried how they are gonna fuck up Doom again. Doom 2016 was the peak of everything Doom should be but some how Doom Eternal just rubbed me the wrong way.

And stop with the fucking story! Doom 2016 was a master class in adding background and character without all this lore dump crap.

Remember the most unpopular apple design of the last decade? Lets copy that!

Fuck its ugly. I like my obelisk of a series x. At least we get a confirmation that Oblivion, the best ES game has not been forgotten.

Baldur's Gate 3 - $5M (before the popularity of the game exploded)
This Baldur's Gate estimation is fucking retarded. What the fuck, Phil is so dumb.

DOS2 sold quite well (based on maximum current players on steam) and had massive reviews.
It was safe to assume that BG3 would do, at minimum, just as good as DOS2. Considering the more well known IP and bigger budget, I expected it to be at least twice as successful, and from steam numbers it was like 5x more successful.

I don't think anyone expected the success it had, but this shows how retarded Phil is, the game was definitely always going to be big.

Gaben is already one of the richest men in the world, Valve is like his kid and it seems like Gaben is a workaholic type of guy.
He is never going to sell it, specially not to fucking MS.
Only after he dies we should start getting worried...
