Since nobody else is bothering to answer this it entirely depends on how much javascript and ajax 2.0 relies on.
IIRC xenforo only uses javascript to update crap in realtime (although this will most likely break the spy feature). Any links that rely on ajax to avoid reloading the page (such as ratings) will most likely just send you to an intermediary page before dumping you back to the page you were on.

Maybe also add a bot that detects when a cow post and automatically archives and post it

There must be something like that already, for Twitter at least. Maybe someone who owns a dedicated server could look into setting it up? Not sure about posting directly to a thread though since that could lead to a lot of spam and would also require some further custom coding, security concerns, etc. An alternative would be to have "archiving threads" where only bots could post but that sounds like overkill.

The only thing I'm really afraid of is a post editor that thinks it's better than me (and isn't). I despise forum post editors that won't let me do BBCode, that have an awful way of handling how quoted messages and text boxes work (again, something that's not so much of an issue if I can write directly in code), and hijacks the right mouse click for its own use.

ok so neo-chat updates really well. it feels really snappy and better to use than the current chat. the user list updates in a less retarded way (i.e. it doesn't just feed a dump of raw HTML that replaces itself over and over again). There's still some improvement I can make on the backend but as far as usability goes it's there. I wanted to use websockets but XF2 doesn't really have support for it. I've written the code such that if websockets ever get added, accommodating them will be easy.

I've also integrated the mod into the statistics system so I can see how active chat is over time.

I have to do some minor shit but other than that this already works way better than what we've got already. I really forgot how close I got the mod in the past when I had free time to quietly work on XF2.

I need to make some sort of ignition checklist for shit I want to do.

I love when this happens. This is the result of the April fools thing a few years ago. The relevant part starts at 6:10 but honestly this entire video is golden. Please do this kind of message again, I love the content this creates.
