probably no one in the whole world will give a shit about this except me, but there's now a feature for isolating a message historically.

i.e. you go to /chat-messages/91/ and it highlights message id 91 and shows the preceding and subsequent 15 messages.

with that done the major items I wanted to have for this are done. the chat works fine.

I'm debating my course of action from here. There's 10 days and two major features that I've determined won't be ready by XF2.


1) Reactions. There's an existing reaction mod but I don't like it. It's missing critical features: per-reaction permissions, and board whitelisting/blacklisting. There's also things I just want to do myself for the reaction mod that I can't do without just making my own.

Having a 'best of' per thread showing the most informative / funniest / whatever ratings is on the table if I make myself.

Additionally, I want to simplify the mod by having few groups with many flavors of each. For instance, we'd have a group for just negative reactions. A post can be autistic, over emotional, or featuring hallmarks of Islam. Ideally that should just be under one category and it'd take 2 clicks to be specific. That way, I can theoretically have as many flavors of fruitloop as I want without cluttering the fuck out of the site by having 100+ icons at the bottom of every post.


2) Featured threads. There's nothing to consider here. The guy who made featured threads for XF1 did not do so for XF2 and neither did anyone else. I'm going to ask this guy what his plan is and do that after I'm finished with the reaction mod. If it's still not out by the time that's done, I'll do it myself.


In the future, I will deprecate the Lolcow Wiki and replace it with communized OPs in on-topic boards. The doxxxers will be able to seize the means of sticker production and OPs will become a collaborative effort formally. There's a huge amount of considerations before I can even start working on this but they're not important at the moment. The wiki won't just disappear, I will archive it for the foreseeable future and give editors a chance to port over their work to OPs.


The big takeaway is that on February 24th we will not have featured threads and we won't have reactions. Perhaps it will be a good test to see if we need those addons at all.

There are two XF2 add-ons that do ratings. This one implements rating-specific permissions but it may not do the other things that you want.

it turns out that xf2.1 has its own reaction system built in, replacing their like system from earlier, and it should be trivial to add the features I want.

and yes I'll be changing these to the current rating setup. I have @Spelling Bee on the case to make something flashy and nice.

their implementation of ratings is very nice and doesn't take up as much room as the current one.
