These games are quite long, I'd say you need on average 60 hours each for the main plot at least.Looks neat enough I think I'll go ahead and play the first two. Interface stuff doesn't bother me, I associated Xeno series with autistic combat since Xenogears.
Xenoblade 1 is the better plot, setting, etc just play the remake so it doesn't look like a ugly middle between PS1 and 2. The combat is fine, and some prefer it, but I think it is a little simple. Think of it like a better version of FF12 with less autistic side quest design and no license board kind of shit. I recall the creator specifically saying he liked FF12 conceptually and wanted to tap into its potential with a mostly seamless world, beautiful world set pieces, no random encounters, and non-turn based combat which is exactly what Xenoblade is.
Xenoblade 2 is the more interesting combat system if quite convoluted for most people due to how many systems you can use in tandem, but it has more grind and some very cumbersome systems especially at the start. If their is one suggestion I can give, use food that decreases cooldown timers as that makes the combat flow a lot better.
As a general bit of advice, Xenoblade does not force you at all to build a party like a traditional jrpg. Dedicated healers are very niche and frankly just doing damage to murder everything in front of you quicker is better then using a healer most the time. Xenoblade really loves focusing on being aggressive and doing damage being almost more safe then tank and heal attrition based tactics.
