Seeing how there's a couple people in the "What are you playing" thread that keep bringing up XCX, I figured I might as well open a dedicated thread for discussion and such.

Right now, I got roughly 35 hours sunk into the game, finished Chapter 6 and am now in the process of unlocking access to the Dolls/Skells. During my time with it so far, I couldn't help but notice that it only grew on me slowly - mostly because the game throws so many systems and gameplay elements at you right from the start and it has yet to stop, either. On the plus side, you can always pick up something to do, and given how story progression works, it feels a lot easier to just do a whole bunch of sidequest stuff given that's where a lot of the character development is located now.

One thing I'm hoping for so far is that Tatsu's dad ends up becoming a possible party member, given he's the designated Heropon.

I can't wait to get to the Skell missions to unlock it. I want to fly so badly! There's a few locations I want to reach too, but I need a Skell for it. Other then that, I'm having a lot of fun.

What is everyone's thoughts on the music. I know it has a clear love it or hate it thing going on, but I been feeling that it fits the setting. Plus, Uncontrollable is fucking awesome!

I'll be buying it as soon as I can spare the cash

Played the hell out of Xeno Wii. Playing the hell out of X, currently. I waited 3 1/2 years for this game and it is worth every minute of that wait.

Mixed, some tracks are awesome but other times I would have prefer they stuck with ACE+. I like the Skell Flying music even if it feels out from a 80's film.

The story is pretty dissapointing so far as they actually have a lot of interesting characters and ideas but it seems is going to go nowhere at the end. The main characters are nothing to write home about, specially since Elma seems squarer than Superman and Captain America combined (but she has some pretty awesome moments at times) and Lin seems to be the only one with a personality and Tatsu is a poor man Rikki, is a shame your avatar has little to say or intervine outside some (pretty awesome) sidequests. I wish the other characters were more involved outside their affinity missions.

I like, in theory, that Mira is a oddball hell hole even for other alien species and nobody knows what is the exact nature of the planet, so is dissapointing that is going to end as a setup for a bigger series than auto contained story like Xenoblade 1
Though XC ended in a way that could go in any direction it wanted so I will not be surprised if in a sequel Mira ends being related with Bionis/Zanza/Claus past shenigans, Proffesor B quest hints there is more going on in that planet (like comic book cosmic story proportions) than anyone thinks. To bad is going to be just speculation for years
so it doesn't feel as 'grandiose' as Bionis. Poppons are worst here than in X1, weirdly enough; i didn't mind them there but here seem more annoying and assholish and is our only source of some sort of lore in Mira.

Also, some Lin costumes seem to lewder than pre censorship, to me at least some of that skin thig black latex seem to be more perverted than plain nudity. Is so weird the approach that Nintendo has with this game in that regard, as is fucking sexually charged in every corner that seems so tone deaf the censorship in the bust slider case and some of the modifications at times seem just to spite SJW sensibilities (if they were not so occupied in sexualizing their own characters while decrying others in tumblr/miiverse)

I actually kinda like this aspect of focusing on smaller vignettes as opposed to the big main story, especially since it does give the individual characters more space to shine on their own.

One thing I'm especially glad for is that you only have to manage affinity levels between your characters and the recruitable party members, as opposed to all party members having affinity levels with every other party member.

The problem is that characters don't level up outside of the party, so more often than not you have a underleveled party with otherwise manageable enemy if you want to do the affinity missions.

Also is difficult to other characters to shine when all revolves around Rook, Elma and Lin. Irina and Doug are interesting characters to me but it helps a lot that they are little more involved than the rest. The fact that there is so much focus in a small cast makes
Lao being the traitor
so damn obvious as he is the only character that the audience would have some sort of reaction being that.

I knew this wasn't going to be plot heavy as the others, so I view the game as another experiment for Takahashi, since this was his first time making a HD game. At the bright side, he knows of that complaint and he wants the next one to be more story with a option of going into outer space.

I knew it was not plot heavy but is kind of shitty that it ends
more like it is a set up to another game.
. Is clear that he is planing something more grandiose.

Don't get me wrong, I like the game, but I think it could have been better storywise even when the plot is in the backseat.

I haven't gotten too far to the story, but yes. I do agree that the story could have been at least have some more of a focus. Playing as a avatar is pretty weird and I cant help, but think of what could have been in the first version of the story, before the avatar idea was a thing.

Fuck these assholes.

A fight against them can go all fine and dandy and then all of the sudden they pull out a laser show and my entire party drops dead. From pretty much full health, too. Yet I gotta beat at least two of these buggers because of a quest and I've yet to find lower level versions.

Worse still, I've been killing those shitheads whenever I find them and they don't seem to want to drop the relevant item for that quest. I think it's from breaking a specific part which I've been doing but to no avail.
My only real complaint about the game is that some of the items required for quests can be a pain to find. It'd be nice if the collectopædia gave more specific locations for things, after you've found one or a certain number. This is a recurring gripe which I also had with XC though.

Yeah, some of the gathering quests can go screw themselves at times. I loved Xenoblade 1 and enjoying this game, but I will admit that those quests can be really annoying to do.

Oh my God, mechs feel so good in this. Cruising all over the place, getting to spots you couldn't get to before, pulling out a giant ass sword that knocks over almost everything for funsies... It actually makes going to hunt for collectibles feel less boring because the scenery changes much more.

Picked it up, can't get enough of walking around the map just messing stuff up.

Gathering quest would not be so bad if the Collectorpedia give some more information about where to found the items. Is silly when I have 99 'rare' collectables and 0 common to complete some quests.
