Waldo is ravenous. Horny. Blunt. Naive. Wise. Impulsive. Lonely. Angry. Hurting. Endlessly wanting. And the thing she wants most of all? Mr. Korgy, her creative writing teacher.
I’m excited for this book—mostly because of how incandescently angry it’s going to make everyone.

Mousy lit scene scolds will be saying “this is NOT IT,” “How Jeanette McCurdy mishandled a sensitive topic” etc. The chuds will talk about how it’s evidence of female literary perversion, etc.

One of my favorite things about Lolita is how Nabokov gives Humbert maximal power over the English language to narrate gorgeously and unreliably, to excuse himself, and to poeticize about his deeds, and yet Humbert still comes across as revolting and insane. If this book tries do a gender swapped version of that, a girl who is given every chance to justify her attraction to a schlubby, predatory loser, but she still ends up looking like a fucked up, damaged kid, then that could be really cool.

But maybe I shouldn’t get my hopes up.

I mean, there's still stuff for dudes, but it's an uphill battle to look for stuff past the usual classics (Homer, Dumas, London, Conrad), comics (older ones), Lord of the Rings, and genre fiction classics (if you're lucky, that Barnes & Noble has some Dashiell Hammett, Robert Heinlein, Michael Moorcock, and/or Robert E. Howard). Can't forget the James Patterson, Clive Cussler, and related mass market paperback fiction made for the boomers.
Saw a meme once depicting a bookstore; the storefront and all the aisles were meant for all kinds of degenerate female readers, and then a single arrow said "men" and it pointed to the corner where all the old classics were. Nothing in books is meant for men, and the fact you can visit any given female-centric book subreddit and see women unironically cheer on male x male rape or any other such degeneracy is ludicrous. It truly underlines the fact that women consume porn in a more respectable way; reading, but what they read is as grotesque if not more cause it's not just visual but mentally choreographed over tens of pages.

So many of these Booktubers and drama channels just copy each other on what dramas to report on, often citing each others videos as where they get their information from. There's no investigative drive or sense they are actually active in or reporting on booktok goings-on just watching more popular channels report it first and then rushing to repeat the exact same points (same can be said of most 'drama' channels or lolcow channels).
It's also very tiresome that most people seem to be accusing her of 'using' her autism/bisexuality as a selling point and this is 'damaging' those communities, and not that she, like almost everyone else there, is faking it because its the new trendy shiny thing that sells book copies, clearly. I'm sick of that one mushmouthed Booktoker who reports on drama and is married to a man with children talking about how 'queer' she is when ''queerness'' gets bought up in a book.
So many of these social media creators cling to the stories they've had since they were 12 and never do anything with it, so I will give Winter some credit in actually getting it published and commissioning artists rather than being an outright beggar or scammer. She did get the book done, it just wasn't good. What do you expect from tiktok author?
Isn't all YA/Romantasy using "autism/bisexuality" as a selling point?

Audra Winter feels kind of like Gloria Tesch without the parts that made Maradonia fun. Mysteriously well financed sped chick self publishing a terrible book in a way that's blatantly about making her a celebrity author with no concern for the quality of their girl-pulp book-product. Audra seems more self-directed than Gloria but also more clearly autistic. "Gardian" is her Sonichu and she claims to have written ten books because she wrote ten entire separate drafts of the first installment of her epic series and directly edited none of them. Interest seems to have died down a little now that she's just blatantly Patreon grifting.

The 'autistic' MC is now the big new thing, especially as a way to shield the author from any criticism. Funny because i remember discourse around The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time for being an 'inaccurate portrayal of autism', even though the young boy in that acts more like an actual autist than these new found tots autistic white women on tiktok. (I have a personal theory that the only reason 'neurodivergence' became the next big personal identifier (and boiled down to mean anyone who isnt the Perfect Ideal Human now) rather than a medical term was because of Divergent. it's all just trends)

The story just gets weirder and weirder, 70k in angel investing and claiming to run an LLC creative media company... for a book that has been pulled from shelves for being nearly unreadable. Her 15-20 artists on payroll aren't ArtStation professionals, they look like random social media artists. Also she seems to have an issue where she can't visualise her worlds, but has to get an artist to draw out her scene and characters from her verbal description before she can write the prose (and good lord, is it bad). At least Chris PBUH was able to write Sonichu with no help.

Thread tax; ik this is the YA thread but YA/romantasy/fantasy/booktok are synonymous slop to me at this point, and i had to share this fantasy novel featuring fantasy trans strap; To Spare an Opal Soul (video review by Reads with Rachel). Blatantly copies 2005's Pride and Prejudice, features a pooner x FMC relationship ('his' name is Gael, pronounced Guy-le), and has a hint of Daenerys Targaryen flavoured long-dormant dragon shifting powers. The writing is sloppy, the plot and characters are entirely derivative, and the only thing saving the book in the negative reviews are the ''queer'' relationships. Even in a fantasy our brave pooner manages to have top surgery scars, and refuses to be touched sexually (may be asexual or 'aromantic' or something?)- they just can't escape the stereotypes!

Man that takes me back to days on the Internet where our hate was at least snarky and fun.

Did some more digging on Audra/Age of Scorpius but it's hard when most of the screenshots on twitter/tumblr/etc are unarchived and unsourced. Sigh. However
In Youtube comments of videos updating people on her scam literary masterpiece, people are claiming she first published Zodiac Turner on Wattpad and may have won awards (Watties?) or was extremely praised for it. Also the main relationship was het so the ''bisexual autistic FMC'' is definitely a marketing shoe in.

Like any good autist, Winters was writing Pokemon fiction as well. But instead of waiting for Miyamoto and Reggie to contact her with a deal to make Scorpiuschu happen, shes one step ahead of everyone and making her OWN multimedia group. There was/is a lot of money coming in; 250k-2million views per Tiktok once she blew up, around 950 on Patreon, 20-30dollars per book sold on TikTok shop, the angel investment (archive here of the original pitch) of up to 70k. Our little auteur was raking in the dosh, but she was spending it too! Her team of 15-20 artists were on 'payroll', and Audra, who 'woke up to a six figure business', was 100% spending all that money on artists and the developmental editor for the Hunger Games, or the marketing manager for the Hunger Games. Or the Assistant marketer, to edit the book.

So she got a ton of social media attention, a ton of money by selling her book on tiktok, was way in over her head on how to develop and write and edit her novel semi-professionally, and fucked up by producing a subpar story, what's the big deal?
Well, she wasn't selling a book. She was selling bookmarks. (how does one archive a whole tiktok acc? thanks)

TikTok Shop doesn't allow preorders (apparently), so to get around this, she was sending off a bookmark so she could cash out and pay for the initial print run of her novel. She eventually took down the 'preorders' for the book(marks) once the audience released how flawed it was, and returned to her LLC to announce she was for realsies hiring an editor who wasn't a fan of hers and was definitely going to editAoSV2.

On Patreon she's super busy posting her new outlines chapter by chapter. The book is going to be out by December- I mean, Spring 2026.

See? This was just an honest fuck up from some eccentric young adult who never realised her childhood story was shit- oh hang on a minute... on a Patreon post from the 17th...

Hmmmmm
Scorpiusbros.... I don't feel so good about this.....

There’s this booktuber named mynameismarines who is essentially crowdsourcing ideas for a romantasy novel - a (sub)genre she’s apparently critical of. She’s also in publishing, and the books she helped published, according to guru gossip, are trash at best.

Upon looking up her TikTok, she has a video where she discusses how enemies to lovers (think the currently popular Draco X Harmonie pairing) is rooted in white supremacy. [I watched this without sound on a browser and, of course, the pairing discussed was Zuko & Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender]

Gonna be a Mormonfag very quick, this comment was under a video essentially about LDS cosmology, and it made me cry-laugh because nowhere is truly safe from the female coom.

I haven't been inside a Deseret Books in many years and I honestly believe this.

Which is not an actual pairing just like draco x hermionie because the characters don't end up together and the relationships would only exist in really angsty teenage fiction. Dudes and dudettes don't end up with people they are "enemies" with until they are 30 something losers with no other options. Single moms who read fan fic and romatasy don't want to talk about that though.

Jill Bearup is doing the SF version of her Romantasy book "Just Stab me Now" which will likely be kino.

If there's something I've learned, romantasy/modern YA very much has an A-log problem. Yeah it's cringe, but the people who sit around making content about it are often just as cringe except in an extremely preachy and self-righteous way.

The only problem with modern girl smut is that it's a bubble and there's so much of it being funneled in before the fad dies off that it's choking out other kinds of stories. Oh, and also the amount of young kids who are getting exposed to it without really being ready to engage with those kinds of things (but then again even the Bible has noncon incest impreg so it's not just a girl smut problem).

Expect to see asexual protagonists taking off in the near future. They're an easy way to score LGBT+ rep, without needing to actually do anything except not write a romance.
I've seen an increase of the number of people on Royal Road promoting their stories as "zero romance/sex." Which is a bit of weird thing to promote in my opinion since you usually have to flag any sex-havin' explicitly anyway.

The difference is the Bible doesn't go into great detail on the act and the emotional response of the receiving end as she's getting piped in all of her holes.

She seems to have drive for her series in all of the wrong places.
She rarely actually posted content for her series, ie characters or plot points. Her whole tiktok is mostly vague aesthetics for the 'novel'. She wanted to be a big name attached to a BIG series (like Rowling who is forever attached to her creation) rather than actually writing a novel for the enjoyment and satisfaction of writing. Goodreads is also allegedly purging bad reviews for the novel. There are also a few allegations that some of the writing from the first original book 'Zodiac Turner' was directly lifted from Twilight however I am still searching for screenshots.

Reminded me of this author who wrote an ABO jesus mpreg novel (the ''lore'' videos are on her tiktok, ever since that faggy Judas animated film got announced the lgbtqiaustists are obsessed with Biblical imagery again). Her whole Tiktok and demeanour is pretty disgusting and the dead eyed stare while she talks about ghost wolf fucking romance is... offputting. There's something so foul about these women posting consent gooner lit slop, has anyone seen that one absolutely clapped chick with teeth like a medieval ruin posting about anime games while swaying 'sexily' to the camera? its so uncomfortable. The 'Closed Door' romances (ie no sex, or fade to black) are growing in popularity but are still somewhat fringe, I imagine that will be the next trend to show how Wholesome you are as an author once everyone gets sick of the amount of open mastubatory BookTok posting.

She looks mighty (((strange))) if you know what I mean.
