Current: An iPhone 13 Mini
Next: The latest Google Pixel Pro
My iPhone was a present to me given by a relative. I loathe obnoxiously large phones, but had to suck it up so I can get the latest security updates. I will be buying the latest Pixel Pro phone and flashing GrapheneOS.

Current: Unhertz Atom
Next: Unihertz Jelly Star

If you miss the small flip-phone era sizes, and don't mind a screen made for ants, these are your phones. Unihertz funds all of their phones through Kickstarter, usually cost ~$200. pic related

I've been debating going back to android eventually, and I happened across a $750 trade in credit for the new unlocked pixel phones. There is a watch you get with it as well, but I'll probably just sell it to my brother (he has a pixel 5) for half cost or whatever. Luckily if it turns out to not be what I want, I can always sell it off later (granted I'll expect it to never be as close to iPhone reselleabilty).
My last android was a OnePlus 8 that died on me after 6 months; luckily it was under warranty, but with the other issues I had with it, I ended up just rage the iPhone. Here's hoping that it's still rootable!
(I'd prefer a Fairphone, but it's hard to obtain them here in the us, without paying high shipping fees/cost).

Current: iPhone SE 2G 2020
Next: whatever the new iPhone SE is (or a used iPhone SE 3G 2022 if they stop making phones with home buttons)

Current phone: Samsung Galaxy Fold 4
Next phone: Probably another Samsung

All my mobile devices are Samsung so it's convenient. The only thing that I dislike about Samsung is that the apps they offer aren't as good as Apple's.

I'm waiting for them to make a 5G titan. I will def pull the trigger on that. My favorite phone of all time was the Blackberry Priv. I still use BlackBerry Hub on my One plus 8 to this day.

I got a fancy GAYMURRR phone from last year recently because my previous phone was seriously starting to show its age, I wanted something that could run my degenerate mobile games better, and this option was actually cheaper than everything currently marketed by my provider.

It's funny because they first tried to claim it wasn't supported by their network, then after pulling up their compatibility list and showing them that it was, in fact, on their list, they once again tried to convince me that it wasn't a guarantee that it would be supported and that I should really just buy one of their own retail phones instead. My boomer ass then figured out that the SIM card in my old phone was compatible with the new phone, then figured out how to remove it and install it in the new phone, and what do you know – it turns out it IS a supported phone and my network works just fine on it. I couldn't be happier with it.

Some reviews state that some of the features like the camera app and the phone app eventually end up having an aneurysm over time, but we'll see if that happens in this case. If it does, I can't help but wonder if installing a separate calling app might alleviate that problem.

Current, Pixel 7 I can't find a reason to root outside nerd boasting.
Next, probably put the sim back in my old iphone 11 mini. Better camera that doesn't crayon bits in with AI.

Necroing

Current phone/ Huawei P30 Lite.

It's a handy decent phone that's lasted me for the last five years but it's getting slow, battery drains faster, ghost touches, often freezes, screen is getting worn out with a few cracks here and there.

Next phone: Erhm still hunting. I usually settle for budget phones as I don't have many demands to the specs so I don't need to pay twice my rent for a phone.

That said, I am a tiny bit biased towards phones with fingerprint scanners but it's not a must.

So current phone is other Oppo A77 or Motorola Moto G53.

Oppo is cheap and has a long battery life which is nice because I go around the island a lot and I like to read.

Motorola has nice sound which is a luxury more than a demand but useful when I fuck around at my apartment doing domestic shit. Also long battery life.

Both are within my price range at various providers in the country.

I'm not very phone savvy but here are some pointers from my own research done before getting a phone for a family member:

I think both of those are phones with only 4GB of RAM. If I were you I'd try to get a phone with at least 6GB even if I don't use demanding apps because it will probably help prolong the phone's life as advertising on mobile becomes worse in the future.

If you need a lot of space, look for a model with an SD card slot.

Some android phones don't have 3.5mm headphone jacks now. Its not just an Apple thing anymore so check for it if that is something you'll need.

The Moto is likely to be better software-wise because Motorola runs stock or almost-stock andoid as opposed to Oppo that runs its own proprietary pseudo-OS and app ecosystem on top of regular android. At the same time remember to take a look at how many years of OS and security upgrades are promised by the manufacturer. As much as I've hated on Apple for their implementation of planned obsolescence, budget android phones' security support periods seem to be even shorter.

Damn. Thankfully both models I've looked at have that.

Aha now this is actually very useful. The seller, being my phone plan provider, sells both of them hence why I settled for one or the other.

The Oppo however only has 4GB ram whereas the Moto has 12.

Both versions run on Android 13. Maybe they can be updated to Android 14. My current phone is Android 9 but got updated to Android 10.
