youtube-dl DMCA'd by the RIAA - RIAA and MPAA are on a mass takedown spree

I can think of many many different download managers that enable you to download from YouTube (among other sites), I can't believe it's got to the point where if you make a similar tool your shit can just be shut down without question
Still haven't found one that can handle several hour long livestreams, including youtube-dl. I just get the first 1 second when I try.

Youtube-dl will deliver nothing or an incomplete file until a long livestream is done processing. JDownloader will do the same, although it gives a better error message.

Streamcatcher is the only way to handle these AFAIK (and can start capturing while the stream is still being broadcast).

Sorry but this is bullshit, just because they created a tool that could be used for piracy doesn't mean it will. Youtube-dl doesn't let you download protected movies on Youtube, if these faggots are too stupid to use proper protection code then that's their problem. The existence of a tool is not itself a crime, if people are using it for the wrong reasons then go sue them. This'd be like trying to sue VCR companies back in the 90s because they could be used to record TV shows.

I'm going to assume that the RIAA knows this is complete horse shit, so they're going to sue whoever the fuck sends them the counter-claim and drag it out for as long as possible so it forever remains in limbo, while filing an injunction which stops YTDL contributors from contributing to any other downloader software until the outcome gets decided. I fucking hate the music industry so god damn much.

Time to archive all those YT channels I've had on the backlog then, I suppose. Guess it's good to have the fire lit under your ass every now and again to remind you it won't last forever and to archive now rather than keep waiting for later. I hope the project can continue in some other way - reminds me of Deezloader getting kicked off of multiple repo sites and eventually having to be distributed through Telegram in the end.

My speakers and video card do that too. I could literally just screen record the same shit. Are they going to DMCA OBS too?
Probably, yeah. Let me tell you a story. @HumanHive alluded to it somewhat already.

Once upon a time, there was a gigantic FAGGOT named Jack Valenti. Jack ran the MPAA. Both the MPAA and RIAA are retarded fetal alcohol syndrome babies born of the film and music industries, respectively. Jack, being a cocksucking faggot, really hated VCRs. He watched all his gay porn on celluloid film loops in seedy porn stores, you see. Anyways, one day Jack went to Congress and demanded they ban this evil non-homo technology. He said that VCRs are to film producers, and the public, what the Boston Strangler is to women (that's not a joke, he actually said that before Congress). Congress was unimpressed by his two inch penis, and said no.

Undeterred, Jack went to his masters and convinced them to sue Sony, who held the patent to Betamax. Long story short, the Supreme Court of the United States raped Jack's gay friends in the ass. And there was much rejoicing throughout the land.

The end.

The moral of the story is they are retarded enough to do just about anything.

They lost me the moment they started citing a German court ruling. If the United states has to accept a foreign courts judgement, it's one issued by the United Kingdom, preferably in the 18th century or older.

Fun fact, there are too this day land holders in America who hold deeds issued by the crown of England. Which are still considered valid by the US courts due to binding law of the treaty of Paris.

But that is a side issue. The primary issue is the RIAA can take their continental court ruling, shove it up their ass, and jump in the English Channel. I hope Github claps back hard and says as much in their counter notice.

Pirate Bay cofounder did that more or less

Basically all it does is created a copy of gnarls barkley’s crazy (around 10 times per second), then delete it and add estimate amount of loss to the counter
Yeah it's all based on the fake bullshit about how it costs them money.

Fun fact, the EU reluctantly released a study showing that piracy had zero meaningful effect on profits.
