youtube-dl DMCA'd by the RIAA - RIAA and MPAA are on a mass takedown spree

Needless to say Github complied (or cucked if you will) but will the YT-DL org file a counter notice? Someone earlier said this happened to some app called Popcorn but they got their repo back with a counter notice.
Interesting times. Feels like when the movie industry tried to stop VHS having the power to record video.

ok what's important is not the hosting. anyone can make a torrent of code or host a git repo. what's important is that the main contributors don't get scared away and they continue to contribute. youtube and other sites constantly change their player since they're not beholden to an API or any interface except their own. I didn't look how the extractors work when I cloned the repo a few months ago to do some testing, but I don't think they are using anything conceptually difficult. It just has to be maintained quickly, which is unlike a lot of software that once stable can gradually add new things. In my experience, if something in youtube changes, youtube-dl gets fixed extremely quickly. Most PRs and code is merged by a select few people who ensure that the tool still actually works correctly.

Still haven't found one that can handle several hour long livestreams, including youtube-dl. I just get the first 1 second when I try.

Youtube-dl will deliver nothing or an incomplete file until a long livestream is done processing. JDownloader will do the same, although it gives a better error message.

Streamcatcher is the only way to handle these AFAIK (and can start capturing while the stream is still being broadcast).
youtube changed their api. initially, the video is in some 'dash' format and you can only download the last 2 hrs. if the upload stays up, it is automatically converted to other formats and can be downloaded

Would Null take personal responsibility for the content RIAA has the hots for like he does with shitpost related DMCAs?
Null is under no obligation to do anything. The DMCA against yt-dl is completely fraudulent and Microsoft can suck another million fat dicks for taking it down.
