Youtube General thread (formerly Youtube Censorship discussion thread)

The problem is, we have no viable alternatives. YouTube really is the only game in town, which is why they can get away with all of this bullshit. And they know it, too. The silliest one I found is in my subtitles they flagged/zapped the word "sissy..." even though I was talking about Sissy Spaceck, the actress! That's her fucking name!

But let's be real here. None of the other platforms are true competition for YT. Odysee? BitChute? They're too small and skew far right, full of conspiracy theory shout show guys, free speechers, and all of that. Normies aren't gonna patronize a platform like that in any large numbers. It's a turn off to them. And normies are the vast majority, so you need something that will appeal to a more general, universal audience if you want the thing to get anywhere. None of the alternative video platforms do that, which is why they'll always be small. They don't have the resources of Google and that's why, despite YT's shitty advertising and thought-crime policies, no one has come up with a YouTube killer.

I really wish Elon Musk would do it, but judging by how he's bungled Twitter I can't see him getting into video. And that's a shame, because we need some common sense applied to this shit. There's no reason it can't be made profitable without sodomizing viewers' eyeballs with all of these annoying fucking ads interrupting content, the bullshit algorithms, and PC police cracking down on someone for no damned good reason.

I think to have higher chance of archiving efficiently, we need to know which channels are already archived? For example Danooct1?
I actually have a full archive of his channel on one of my hard drives. I’ve been meaning to upload my archived YouTube stuff (nothing rare in particular).

Jdownloader2 (what I use to download videos) seems to be working fine as of this morning.

I don't think that's quite the turn-off you think it is anymore.

Nick, everything from Nick!
That's going to be a hassle. Doesn't he have 12 hour streams? You'd almost need a whole separate drive for a lot of this.

I will also huff copium and say that someone will come up with something. You say "similar to Twitch", but I haven't gotten ads there for months now, and vods are ad-free too. Don't know which one of my 200 extensions are doing the trick, but something is working.

To be fair, it's just as easy for big tech to smear the competition as problematic and "lacking in moderation" regardless of content.

Payment processors experience the same thing.

Unfortunately, no I don’t have that one archived. Doesn’t look like it would be too hard to backup, only about 470 videos.

My only idea of sharing everything I have ATM is a torrent, if anyone is up for that.
I have about 8TB of YouTube on my PC (lots of older channels), I’ll have to get a list.

Goddamn I miss YouTube.

You know YouTube when it was GOOD?

When most of the content was made by actual people and not whole corporations and LLCs with editors and producers.

When you could find copyrighted content and nobody gave a shit?

Or you had weirdo’s like Chris-chan with their own channel, because why not?! And your videos weren’t buried under a mountain of crap, and there was a decent signal to noise ratio so you’d still discover stuff and randos would find your videos.

Back in the day you could find weird conspiracy videos or Nazi stuff and nobody cared or thought about demonetizing it because “MUH MISINFORMATION!” Or because there was a swastika visible for a few seconds.

Todays YouTube is basically the Web 2.0 version of cable, and it fucking sucks.
