On December 6th 2017, YouTube released their 7th annual YouTube Rewind. As per usual, it contained random "popular" YouTube personalities from around the world (i.e. Jake & Logan Paul) in a massive showcase of popular trends from 2017 which everybody loved (i.e. Fidget Spinners).

As was the case back in 2016, many people got really salty about YouTube Rewind this year because of some of the things that they didn't talk about, like how YouTube is screwing people over with demonetization and flat-out ignoring certain controversies (Casey Neistat's demonitization) while highlighting others (Floods and tragedies in the world). This also results in people creating "real" YouTube Rewinds.

Tweets talking about how this year's rewind was bad.

The only decent thing about 2017's rewind was the animation showcase at the end. Prior to that, I think the only animation featured in any rewind was How It Should've Ended, and even then, that was a stinger.

But other than that, yeah, this year's rewind was just noise.

To be fair I can understand some of the salt. It think its unfair that certain content creators are deliberately left out of the video i-e pewdiepie, becuase the might offend certain people.

I don't get why so many people are saying "Well the video WAS awful but those animators at the end were really good!!!" I feel like just because they're "animated" everyone looks over the fact that they're just cookie cutter storytime youtubers.

0/10, where are the Spider Man Elsa poop eating youtubers or youtube's shitty copyright bot demonetizing everyone?

Yep, it was a lot of youtubers that jot many people know. I think you have to have at least 1 million subscribers on youtube to be considered for youtube rewind. But it was a bunch of pretty people.

Appearantly Pewdiepie was in all the youtube rewinds except for this one, and I can understand how that can be a slap in a face for someone who is has the highest number of subscribers in the world.

Oh well, here's to see what next year will bring!

I wouldn't say nay to a Kiwi Farms rewind though. A recap of the most autistic content of the year would be great.

I think I saw Rhett and Link in this rewind? I mean last year I saw like, 3 people I knew. This year it was a big fat zero.

Considering Youtube went about demonitizing people who's videos were going to give the ad revenue from them to the Las Vegas victims funds, then threw up their own shit on this video it's galling.

PewDiePie is literally Hitler to some people, so he's probably not going to be in a Google endorsed thing for a while.

Whether Pewdiepie's a literal racist nazi or not he doesn't make the kind of content Youtube wants to promote. If you look at the kinds of channels promoted in the video it's mostly vlogs and storytimes and basic Instagram "comedy". All the channels people wanted to see like pewdipie, h3h3, and idubbbz are mainly reaction and/or drama content (and/or "let's make fun of this stupid shit people do") which youtube has been trying to crack down on or discourage since the first adpocalypse.

So when the response to Youtube Rewind is "where's idubbbz and h3h3" the answer to that is they haven't been "advertiser friendly" for like a year now.

Not sure why people are acting so surprised, Rewind has always been fucking awful. Also just because animation takes a lot of effort doesn't mean that guys like TheOdd1sOut deserve praise for making shit content

Youtube seemed perfectly fine with sticking him in the past youtube rewinds in the past before the N-word incident though.

I think the big thing with him there is like many others Youtube also sees Pewdiepie as the reason advertisers starting pulling ads (and money from them) over WSJ's "pewdiepie is a Nazi" piece and then them contacting advertisers over it. i;e Pewdiepie lost them money so he's in the doghouse now.

Guess that could be right, youtube is trying to cycle in a brand new crew of youtubers that make popular content and won't cause them to lose more advertisers and money, still doesn't make the youtube rewind any less shit though.
