Idk how I managed it either, but I put on Let's Drown Out for background noise quite a bit in the distant past. The only part that sticks out to me was Gabe and Yahtzee having a heated argument about gun control, despite not disagreeing about anything related to it. They both thought guns were evil and scary and nobody besides for the government should have access to them, but they managed to get all pissy with each other over the subject regardless. Kinda like the argument about GOTY, those two would take any chance they could find to snipe at one another. I think Yahtzee resented Gabe for the reasons you mentioned, while Gabe resented Yahtzee for being successful despite his lack of talent.
The best episodes of let’s drown out are the ones where they get into arguments. Smash TV ep is a classic. Stupid ass semantic argument about “game of the year” in which Gabe is a disingenuous cunt and Yahtzee is an autist. Loved it.

Edit: rewatching, Yahtzee says nigger in this episode at 4:27 lol

But he's on the chopping block.
Its only a matter of time until people fully loses interest with the shit he has to say.
His tastes for videogame are turning to shit, considering that he's drifting on a crash course toward dadslop and pretentious indies.
I wanna say that its lesshim being on the chopping block, and more that its him the one happily strolling toward it.

I think it's more like "everybody but him is on the chopping block" so let's see if he's more than willing to either drop all of his coworkers for Nick or drop Nick for all of his coworkers
Modern Yahtz is too much of a pussbag to take the wheel. He needs someone to govern him and would never, ever revolt alone.

The Escapist is now officially dead. All staff has been sacked and it will now post only AI generated slop. If SecondFart's situation wasn't so pathetic and dire, I'd call that a win for Yahtzee. But he's on the chopping block.
Way back when I first found Zero Punctuation and it lead back to The Escapist I thought it was Yahtzee's site like TGWTG was Doug's site as he was the only person I recognized. Since then I've only heard of people leaving it at different times with no one new and up and coming joining. Did they just hope a couple existing names would carry them or were they just incompetent retards?

It's weird that they had this symbiotic relationship where they needed each other.

Unrelated but I tuned into the lated Zero Punctuation (or whatever gay shit it's called now) and he makes a "drumpf is a nazi" joke in the first 30 seconds. Sad.

Fuck I used to love watching Zero Punctuation. And Jim Sterling's content before he became a fucking fat tranny. RIP Escapist.

It's an interesting situation to be in, where companies like the escapist were able to exist and thrive in a gaming market easily 10 times smaller than it is now. Yet now when multiple games a year have 9 figure budgets these people couldn't figure out how to keep a company of 20 people making minimum wage afloat.
Yahtzee says "He’s got sounding intelligent confused with actually being intelligent” which is just him describing himself. He's a deeply insecure pseudointellectual twat that belittles other people to feel smug and superior about himself. I think quite a bit of it stems from the fact he dropped out of secondary school to be a NEET and Gabe was college educated which made Yahtzee feel insecure.
One of the biggest tells of a pseudo intellectual usually is just how much they talk about IQ, and how much they cope about 'X' thing not correlating to actual intelligence.

We can even go with the example he used to show how wrong he is.
There's a thought experiment where the question asked is "How many words would it take to describe the color red to a blind person?"
The blind person has been blind their whole life, they don't even know what "color" is.
The first thing someone might say to them is, "Well think of the feeling of something hot on your hand, that's sort of like what the color red is", and while this makes sense to people who've been able to associate red with heat, a blind person's mind would never have made the association.

Theoretically though, there could be a set amount of words that when said could get a blind person to understand what the color red is.
Now if you were going to bet on who is more likely to figure that out, would you choose someone who sounds intelligent, or someone who says their intelligent?

Reality on the Norm games were my first introduction to Yahtzee, so it might just be a return to his roots. Now I have to see if I can get any of these to run on a modern computer.
I was referring to his recently reviewed "afrofuturist climbs a mountain and dies, the game".
I want to imagine grummz and escapist coding the same identical shit simultaneously, one as an attempt to parody the vile enemy of gamergate (and as an attempt to pull a pirate software and do everything but work on its fucking game), the other because they genuinely think this is the future of clickbait journalism.

This is the site right? https://www.escapistmagazine.com/

I am not surprised, they have lost massive traffic since, from 1.7M monthly visitors to 300K in a year.

They also started running ads around December, all of which are gambling related.

They hardly took this decision because they wanted to, looks like they probably had no choice.

The ads in question are on no index landing pages (so probably not actually accessible to regular readers) and include ppc (pay per click) in the URLs. https://www.escapistmagazine.com/guides/online-casinos-ppc/

The gaming journalism "industry" of the past in general is in shambles. The Internet contributed to the death of the magazines and Youtube destroyed a lot of the appeal the dedicated gaming journalist websites had.

I cut my teeth on the escapist forums a long, long time ago. It was infested with SJWs before SJWs were even a thing, but it did have some genuinely good discussion too. Probably one of the best forums I browed when I was very young, despite all the Australians.

As for Yahtzee, I never watched another review after the whole "Why yes I would suck my girlfriends penis" thing and his joke retraction.

Has he ever not been an indie elitist? I feel like back in the day he always bitched about having to care about AAA games and seemed to have nothing but slobber to lather on indie games. Perhaps he’s just got more independance now and can go where his heart desires, regardless of whatever the audience thinks.
