I thought the edgy bit of yahtzee was how he used to play the game for about 5 minutes and then base all his complaints on that.

That's not beign "edgy", that's being a lazy fuck who can't do their job properly, even putting aside the fact that he has a kid now (FGC soyboys Maximillion Dood and Justin Wong put in more work and they have kids too). You saw that kind of shit all the time with other game journos even before GamerGate. Jim Sterling was notorious for pulling that kind of shit (he probably stil does it now, idk, haven't watched the guy since he moved to PA before he turned tranny).

The "edgy" parts of Yahtzee was that he would trash whatever AAA was out at the time in an industry where people were (and still do) praising video game companies for spewing out garbage. He would be that contrarian asshole where even if a game was good, he'd still find something to bitch about. Some of his complaints were legit, but otherwise it was clear he was taking the piss out of a game just for the sake of doing so. What made him set himself apart from others (aside from the cut-out animations that apparently he goes ape-shit if someone else uses the same style in their videos) was the way he phrased his words and sentences to make them sound somewhat funny like a snarky stand-up comedian.

Regarding politics, that shit didn't start to go into overdrive until Trump came into the picture Before then it was shit like Margaret Thatcher, and ripping on Americans if he was reviewing a war shooter game, but it was only sprinkles of that shit. Now-a-days the fucker can't help himself but try to force that shit into almost all of his videos.

Hot take, I think a big problem with Postal series is in the end it's a boomer shooter catering to impotent Millenial reactionaries who should be making offensive games mocking companies for being woke and not complaining anonymously.

Postal's humor can only offend if people feel like they are in danger and in a position of power and influence. Because not even GTA was immune to the influence of politics and RWS is pelting paper wads at a fence hoping for attention. For all of the video games violence the media slander the industry, we never seen a situation where blood was spilt yet compared to Charlie Hebdo where the triggered actually pulled the trigger on the people offending them

His 2017-onward videos are probably his least political years compared to a lot of his pre-Trump stuff. I mean maybe it's because he didn't do as many COD/Battlefield reviews but Yahtzee could go several videos without mentioning any politics or current event.

I don't think Yahtzee feels comfortable with being truly "edgy" in his political takes, and tbf I don't really think he's a particularly political person at all. *Everyone* was bitching about Trump during the high season of 2016-17 so I dunno if it's necessarily fair to hold him to the fire in particular. I do recall one video that he had to do a very quick edit to at the last minute because it made a visual joke about shooting kids, like practically the exact same day as the Sandy Hook shooting.

i know he was shockingly kinda wealthy back in australia. I think it was a mix of his contract being inked during the web video boom, plus a lower cost of living in australia. I get the sense he earns a lot more from the escapist than anyone would reasonably expect -- just that he now has to do more to earn it (shitty podcasts, shitty dnd, shitty streams) than he did in say 2013.

They did snipe at each other a fair bit, but I know that when they did the arcade game Smash TV, Gabriel got Yahtzee pretty wound up by (calmly) insisting that one's "game of the year" was different than "the game they liked the most that year". It even got some fans worried to the point where they had to open the next episode by assuring them they weren't ending the show over it.
