"Zero Punctuation" and "Dev Diary" by Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw - The only thing worth watching on The Escapist

"Preflight panic" is complete and is downloadable here.

Some of you might also be interested in a crossover with a long-time cow, Bob Chipman, in a short video of him playing "Preflight Panic".

The next project planned is "Battle Royale Tycoon".

It's a round-based game with a top-down perspective. ~50 randomly placed characters on the map. If two of them meet, one kills the other. Buildings contain equipment and ammo, and also act as shelters to hide from other characters. Circle appears at the start of each round, and everything outside the circle dies at the end of the round.

The AI is supposed to be working like this: At the start of each round, each character moves according to his list of priorities. The priority list is as follows:
1. Getting inside the circle.
2. If unarmed, then enter a building within vision to gather equipment. If armed, then attempt to kill a player within vision.
3. Move in a random direction if none of the above apply.

Your role in this game is that of an executive of a hit TV show. At the start of each round you pick a character which the TV drone will start hovering over to record as many interesting TV moments as possible withing a small radius around said drone. You can manipulate the events via various means, such as package drops, and probably via characters' earpieces.

"Observation" is today's subject.

"Observation" is a puzzle-adventure game where a player takes on the role of a space station AI trying to recover from a mysterious loss of its crew, or alternatively 'imagine if 2001: A Space Odyssey was a found footage horror film, and you get to play as HAL 9000'. Atmosphere and sound are great. The ability to see around the ship exclusively through the lenses of cameras lends an unsettling tone, not unlike Five Nights at Freddy's (before the series became unsettling for many other, completely unrelated reasons), which is somewhat negated by a mobile drone you get to use later in the game. Major criticism of the game is the game's pace sometimes not fitting the situation at hand, such as a seemingly emergent situation that requires player's immediate attention lasting forever and without negative consequences until the player decides to finally advance the plot. The environment evokes real-life space station, and as such isn't very diverse and can sometimes can be easy to get lost in, but it's certainly intentional and is more of a nitpick than anything. The entire station is littered with documents and logs, and the difference between the unreadable and readable ones is non-existent. Humans sometimes don't react appropriately to a life-or-death situation, which can ruin the immersion somewhat.
An overall positive review.

So his entire game concept is taking something like Hunger Games or Running Man and making into an sort of sim game. Why you are truly a genius of our time Yahtzee, what would the gaming industry ever do without such mad creators like you, they are clearly missing out for not hiring someone like you. Also him giving a positive review for an indie game, the amount of surprised people is surprisingly zero.

Yahtzee's E3 2019 showcase video. Just a little something until the next Zero Punctuation episode.

He used to be unhealthily skinny, so he's stepped up a bit at least.

But yeah, he's not overly comfortable on camera - I remember him talking about it in relation to his personal dislike of unscripted comedy. It's not that he looks down on improv, it's that he's really uncomfortable when having to go off-script. One of the (admittedly several...) reasons his attempt at gaming shows didn't take off.

I'd say the biggest reasons why it never took off (and thank Dagon for that) is aside from well him not being comfortable, he also doesn't have real charisma when he's on camera. Combined with the fact the guy can't write a sketch to save his life.

I've been listening to his audiobooks in the last few days, actually. The writing and delivery are pretty hilarious. I'd recommend them.

You mean how in his Mogworld book he pretty much regurgitated all the material from his reviews or his Jam book which felt like his attempt being Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy? Great fucking writing there skippy.

Don't you have anything better to do than show off your massive hateboner for a content creator in a thread dedicated to said creator? Because it's getting really old.

Question: How me shitting on this hat wearing wanker any different than Bobo getting shat on? I mean, aside from the obvious differences of some fanboys rating the "mad" part.

This ain't a lolcow thread for one thing and for another you've made basically the same post getting worked up over each and every new piece of content Yahtzee puts out. It's like clockwork.

Dunno about getting worked up, since I simply call the guy being a simple hack who's more predictable than soap opera episode.

Dude, I never could stand Yahtzee. Never liked ZP, thought his games were mediocre to trash, never read his books but since I never thought he was that good of a writer and the fact that they're completely forgotten, don't imagine they're good. You're right, he is a hack as far as I'm concerned.

But right now you're the pot calling the kettle black based on your posting history here.
