My guess is that they got into another screamfest at the spot where that van was and he pushed her into that roof ladder and her head bashed into it and fucking killed her. Or he could have smashed her head into the ladder with his hand/fist either deliberately or accidentally. He panics and drags her into the woods and leaves her. Then he hightails it for home, mommy and daddy hire a lawyer, then wait for it all to blow over because the pigs usually don't give a fuck about hippies going missing halfway across the country. When her folks call in the journos, he goes into the nearest wildland and an hero's because he's a coward. His folks wait until the gators get his body before reporting him "missing".

What a fucking mess. So most likely just carried across the river after a quick body dump to the other shore. Its possible that Youtube couple drove past a van with a corpse in it.

Edit: Looking at some pictures of the area it looks like the creek might actually be very shallow which suggest he might have dragged her to some tree cover instead.
