I wouldn't give 1/3 of a half a shit if the government shutdown was just the tards in the House and Senate and any 3-letter agency who told each other to go home and fuck themselves. But the stupid government shutdown nonsense includes all federal employees, which means not just the Parks, but 90% of NASA will get shut the hell down again too. Last time this happened, telling the NASA employees to go home and jerk off to
Hidden Figures forced SpaceX, ULA, Boeing etc
to keep working while praying that those government checks were eventually going to start coming in again. Some of these launch windows
cannot be missed because then you have to wait from months to fucking
years to get another window, which is not exactly something you want to roll up to the CEO of Lockheed Martin and let him know that you blew millions on prepping to launch a spacecraft that's now grounded until 2025 because the fuckups in Washington shut the government down. Imagine SpaceX scrambling next month's trip to the ISS because there's nobody working at fucking Cape Canaveral to give them the green light to launch! It's an embarrassment to the entire community and visible on a global scale.
While I know many here including myself will not exactly cry over Boeing or Musk or Bezos getting a little less government cash to fly cool rockets, stupid shit like this is why NASA is getting absolutely spanked by these same private companies, and why China, Russia, Japan, and fucking
India of all places are dreaming about how close they are to overtaking us in this 21st century Space Race. Plus all of those multimillion dollar satellites and probes we shot up there, and all the fancy telescopes down here, are not going to be collecting essential data because if the government shuts down, there's nobody to receive, categorize, and interpret that information. It's obviously a mega First World Problem but back in 2019 if you were at a conference and took a shot every time someone giving a talk mentioned the effect the shutdown had had on their data collection and therefore their project/paper/model/thesis, you would have died before making it to the second day of panels.
It's a domino effect that reaches a hell of a lot farther than you might think, even bullshit like the National Parks being closed means that some zoologist or whatever isn't going to be able to do their work with like wolves or grizzly bears or whatever, and the geologists and whoever in Antarctica aren't going to be able to study
alien temples Nazi UFOs the entrance to the hollow Earth whatever it is they study there, and so on and so forth. This shit ripples out and effects normal people at all levels, not just the circle jerk morons in DC.
Stupid bullshit government shutdowns are holding back the scientific community from major breakthroughs as well as their routine work, and it's asinine that we're going to have to watch Washington literally retard our progress once again.
