NYC is east coast LA, but NJ really is east coast California; a few counties that glow deep blue with the outdated mindset that the DNC is still the party of St. Kennedy and a rural half of the state that despises it's (sub)urban half but is ultimately powerless to make change given the amount of sons of illegals and blacks in the northern half and NY metro area who have transformed the state into a guaranteed blue fortress.
That's without mentioning the stupid high taxes, gun laws, real estate prices, and overall cost of living.

If I wasn't enduring the worst of North Jersey for the sake of my industry as someone with just shy of a year of experience, I'd move to Pennsyltucky in a heartbeat. The gun laws here are somehow more restrictive than in my vote-blue-no-matter-who home state, and while my own cost of living is probably way lower than the average millennial living away from home in $currentyear (mostly because I save money constantly in the event of a freelance dry spell), I'll never be able to live like the dipshit trust fund babies renting out units in the luxury apartment complex across the river on my income alone, nor am I eligible for unemployment benefits somehow despite being required to pay taxes.
The red/pink counties of New Jersey are alright though. Property values are still high compared to the Rust Belt states, but people aren't assholes and there seems to be a healthy mix of hard red and blue voters living in the area. It's a shame they'll never get their way outside local elections, what with places like Newark and Hoboken importing South Americans on the gibs like cheap coffee.
