The issue is how you framed it. The problem is not that Rekeita recommended Vic to someone here knew. Such arrangements happen all the time in the profession. The specific relationship Ty and Rekeita hold, and Ty's expertise are the problem.

Ty Beard is an estate planning and business structuring attorney. His proficiencies are almost entirely transactional in nature. What this means is that Ty Beard is not the type of attorney that goes to court. Ty Beard does not litigate. Ty Beard has no experience in defamation law. Ty Beard is the type of attorney that drafts corporate documents and helps manage your finances. Keep this in mind as we go forward.

Ty Beard is a trustee on a testamentary trust to which Nick Rekeita is a beneficiary. Essentially, Ty manages Nick's trust fund. As a trustee, Ty gets to choose when and how much money the trust will dispense.

What is problematic about Nick's recommendation of Ty Beard is that Nick passed Vic off to an attorney who Nick was aware had no experience in what the client was seeking assistance for, AND had a substantial ongoing financial relationship with Nick. I don't think Nick has ever publicly indicated that he disclosed this very important information to Vic.

What Rekeita did was highly unethical by the standards of the profession. Not enough to put him under serious inquiry--it's hard as fuck to get disciplined by the bar committee for anything other than comingling client funds or literal crimes--but enough to reflect poorly on the profession. This is about as close as you can get to skirting the ABA's Model Rules of Professional Conduct without breaking them.

How is it that people have such a hard time to understand the difference between a referral and a recommendation. A recommendation implies a suggestion to do something, in this case to hire another lawyer. Laywers can't really do this because it may implicate ethical problems and potentially liability issues.
If a lawyer refers a collegue to a potential client, he says "here's an attorney I know, who maybe can help you with your situation. Talk to him."
And that's what Nick consistently said for over 2,5 years now. There's nothing fishy I can see here. I also can't remember Nick ever litteraly saying "I didn't recommend Ty to Vic".

And just as disclaimer: I don't give a fuck if like or don't like Nick, but this shit is stupid. If you search something to label Nick "fishy" there're probably a lot better skeletons in his closet.

It gives the appearance of a conflict of interest when Nick streams about the case and coincidentally refers the attorney involved in the case and streams with them. That is why people have such a problem with the referral. It appears like he chose the lawyer for a case he was covering to make money off of his association with the attorney involved in the case.
