One of the more legitimate heirs alive is a member of the Republican Party. My guess is that when push comes to shove he'd take up the duty since the other 'heirs' tend to be homeless schizos who 'protest' by shitting up the construction sites of space telescopes. Maybe he'd change the name of the local Republican Party to the Royal Party or something.

Not exactly. None of the people alive now with traceable ancestry are eligible for the throne under the same rules as it originally required, because hapas were customarily forbidden from entering the line of succession. If that were out of consideration then I would imagine the Campbell and Bishop families have the strongest traceable claim to royal lineage.
Basically nobody can make a legal claim anymore so the only people who ever try are frauds.
